TOPIC: THE SECRET OF A PEACEFUL LIFE (2) - ABSORB ALL INSULTS
AUGUST THURSDAY 2nd
TEXT: Romans 12:17-21
KEY VERSE: But I say unto you, that ye resist not evil: but whosoever shall smite thee on thy right cheek, turn to him the other also. Matthew 5: 39
As a maturing Christian, you will come to a point that when someone insults you, you will be quiet; you will not allow it to bother you. It is like pouring water on the back of a duck. People antagonize you, but you are peaceful; they disdain you, but you are peaceful; they criticize you, but you remain peaceful. They disrespect you and challenge your authority, but you are peaceful and undisturbed because you have understood that this thing must have been allowed by God to test your spiritual strength. King David was driven into the wilderness by his son Absalom, when he wanted to oust him as King. As he went on the way, there was a man named Shimei from the family of Kind Saul who harassed him on the way saying, “Come out, come out, thou bloody man, and thou man of Belial: The LORD hath returned upon thee all the blood of the house of Saul, in whose stead thou hast reigned; and the LORD hath delivered the kingdom into the hand of Absalom thy son: and, behold, thou art taken in thy mischief, because thou art a bloody man.”
David was unperturbed. Do you know why? Because he knew his hands were clean and God knows. David knew he wasn’t passing through the judgement of God over what his son Absalom was doing. He had a clear conscience because the Holy Spirit had not convicted him. One of David’s elite soldiers responded, “Why should this dead dog curse my lord the king? let me go over, I pray thee, and take off his head.” David rebuked his military commander wondering why he was thinking like that. He told him to leave Shimei alone for God knew his innocence and he knew how God works. He that saw his innocence will turn the man’s curses into blessings for him. With this kind of positive mindset, David remained peaceful. That is the way to handle people that want to take away your peace.
Thought for the day: Do not avenge yourself. Leave vengeance to God.
Song for the day: Christian walk carefully
Bible reading for the day:
Psalms 68-69; Romans 3
