TOPIC: SIN DEPRIVES, HOLINESS RESTORES
AUGUST Wednesday 22nd
TEXT: Luke 1:74-75
KEY VERSE: Teaching us that, denying ungodliness and worldly lusts, we should live soberly, righteously, and godly, in this present world; Titus 2: 12
Sin deforms and twists its victim. Moral deformity, moral deprivation! An empty sack cannot stand erect. That is the deprived nature we inherited from Adam. That is why David wrote in Psalm 51:5 , “Behold, I was shapen in iniquity; and in sin did my mother conceive me.” As descendants of Adam, everyone of us has the adamic sin in him or her. Job 14:4 says, “Who can bring a clean thing out of an unclean? not one.” Sins forgiven when you become born again are those committed by yourself not the inherited one. Sin of fornication, lying, cheating etc. That's why Jesus told the woman, "Your many sins are forgiven." Salvation gives you power to stop your act of sin. It gives you power to become a child of God. But that inherited adamic nature, the inward pollution, is still inhibiting against your holy living. Very often it rears its head and pollutes you. There was strive and self-seeking among Jesus’ disciples as to who was the greatest. They asked this question after Jesus told them he would be dying. They were struggling for succession. They were born again but the pollution came from their adamic nature. You are a Christian but easily provoked, easily angered, envious, jealous. The UNSANCTIFIED Christian will always rise and fall. He cannot keep himself completely out of sin. It is beyond his power. He needs to go to Jesus in prayer and ask for sanctification by faith.
HOLY LIVING cannot be separated from sanctification. Sanctification removes the adamic nature. Titus 2:14, “Who gave himself for us, that he might redeem us from all iniquity, ... [SALVATION] and purify [SANCTIFICATION] unto himself a peculiar people, zealous of good works.” Jesus said in John 8:36, “If the Son therefore shall make you free [SALVATION] ... ye shall be free indeed [SANCTIFICATION].” Holiness is an imperative for a serious-minded believer no matter the condition of your life. Aged Zachariah and Elizabeth remained holy in the face of deprivation (Luke 1:5-7). Job was holy in spite of his stupendous wealth (Job 1:1-3, 8). Holiness is a universal experience. It is total! 360 degrees, affecting your whole life. It is required of God. It is required to enjoy your Christian life so that people will not see reproach in your life, but a good fragrance. It gives full confidence of entering heaven.
Thought for the day: Pray for sanctification until it is evident in your life and your conscience does not convict you.
Song for the day: Are you washed in the blood of the lamb
Bible reading for the day:
Psalms 119:49-104; 1Corinthians 4
