TOPIC: THE SECRET OF A PEACEFUL LIFE 4 – WORRY LESS, PRAY MORE
AUGUST Monday 20th
TEXT: Philippians 4:6-7
KEY VERSE: And he said unto his disciples, Therefore I say unto you, Take no thought for your life, what ye shall eat; neither for the body, what ye shall put on. Luke 12: 22
Whatever the bad news or bad thought or bad dream, commit it to prayer and you will enjoy the peace of God. Suppose somebody tells you that you will die, the scripture says don’t worry. Suppose you hear about rumour of retrenchment in the office, don’t worry. Just commit it to God in prayer. Suppose you are afflicted by a terminal disease or a debilitating sickness, the scripture is still saying, don’t worry about it. If you wake up without anything in your pocket and there is no food in the house, still don’t worry. The Christian principle is that you have a God that cares, so why are you worried? Commit it to God in prayer and be peaceful. Is God not your Father? Do not let the activities of witches and people of darkness bother you so much. The very hair on your head are numbered and there is an eye watching over you - you will not be disappointed, you will not be ashamed, you will not be abandoned by God.
There was a man who knew how to be unnecessarily worried. Sometime later, the man came across a message like this which says, “Why worry when you can pray, why worry when Jesus is there for you?” This worrying man was introduced to Jesus and he stopped worrying. His confession changed to, “My God will take care of me, my God will wipe away my tears.” Somebody who knew him before said, “I can see that you don’t worry anymore.” He replied that he had discovered who will worry for him so he employed that person. “Aha! How much do you pay him?” He replied, “I pay him ten dollars every day.” “How do you get money to pay him?” He replied, “It is part of his business to worry about that.” It was another way of saying, “I have found Jesus, I don’t have to carry my burden again. He is doing that for me.” Otherwise, you will be like a village woman who was carrying a heavy load from the farm and a man driving a pick-up van decided to give her a ride. Mama was happy but she kept the load on her head. When the driver noticed it from his rear mirror he stopped and asked why she was still carrying the load on her head. Her reply was, “You gave me a ride, I will be ungrateful to add the weight of my load to your vehicle, so let the load remain on my head.” Stop carrying your burden. Jesus is there for you and your burden. Commit all to him in prayer.
Thought for the day: Let Jesus be your burden carrier.
Song for the day: The Lord says I should not fear, he says I should not worry …
