TOPIC: DELAY IS NOT DENIAL, PERSIST IN PRAYERS
SEPTEMBER Sunday 9th
TEXT: Luke 18:1-8
KEY VERSE: Pray without ceasing. 1 Thessalonians 5: 17
What you call delay is divine timing in the eyes of God for there is time for everything, even for receiving answer to prayer. Ecclesiastes 3:1, “To every thing there is a season, and a time to every purpose under the heaven.” Jesus told his brothers, “My time is not yet come: but your time is alway ready.” Men are always in a hurry for everything, but God has his own timing, He cannot be rushed. Divine timing is the best timing because it comes at the right time. After a long season of draught, Elijah knew by divine inspiration that it was time to pray for rain. He proclaimed to king Ahab that the long-awaited rain was about to fall. He said, “There is a sound of abundance of rain.” So, Elijah went up the top of the mountain to pray for rain, but there was no rain - not even a sign. He was not discouraged. He did not say, “But God you told me there will be rain, why is the rain not falling?” He is familiar enough with God’s ways to know that God has His own timing. He knew that if it did not happen then it would happen later, so he kept on praying. At the seventh time, the servant came back with good news saying, “Behold, there ariseth a little cloud out of the sea, like a man’s hand,” then a heavy downpour followed. At last, his prayers were answered!
If you are as impatient as king Saul, you cannot go far with God. Abraham waited 25 years to receive his child of promise. God’s judgment is also like that. Sometimes you wonder why God has not judged the wicked. God takes His time so that through his patience and forbearance some will receive mercy and be saved. Saul, who later became apostle Paul, was a great beneficiary of God’s patience. As God is patient with you in your sin, learn to be patient with Him in getting answer to your prayer. May be why you are not even getting an answer is because you are asking amiss, outside the will of God. God will give you what will profit your soul, not what will hurt it. May be the delay is because of sin in your life. Examine your life, restructure your request, persist in prayer and the answer will soon come your way.
Thought for the day: Keep on praying. God knows how to give good gifts to His children.
Song for the day: O yes, He answers prayer
Bible reading for the day:
Proverbs 15-16; 2 Corinthians 1
