TOPIC: WHICH KIND OF VESSEL ARE YOU IN THE HOUSE OF GOD?
TEXT: 2 Timothy 2:19-21
KEY VERSE: 2 Timothy 2:20 But in a great house there are not only vessels of gold and of silver, but also of wood and of earth; and some to honour, and some to dishonor.
If you go to a house, including your house, you will find different utensils and plates there. Some plates are there to be used in honourable times, while other plates in the house are put into common use. In case you have dogs in your house, there are plates that you use to serve meals to the dogs. You also have some bowls for waste materials. They are being put to use, but dishonourably. They are all useful, but not with great honour. If they get spoilt, you don’t get disturbed losing them. On the other hand, you have plates or dishes that are precious to you. They are kept aside for honourable use. If you have a visitor, a high-profile visitor or a great man visiting, you will look for these plates or dishes and serve him meals in them. You do this because you desire to give the man honour or special treatment. For such vessels, you take good care of them and keep them in a safe place where they cannot be easily damaged.
In a great house, the Bible says, there are different kinds of vessels. This is speaking of servants of God or ministers of God. It says some are put to honourable use – they are ministers who can be described as gold, silver, precious stones. These ones, God puts them to honourable uses. But then, there are others described as wood and earth, which are put into dishonourable uses. Both are being used by God but in different ways. Both are in the house of God but they are classified differently. Both are prophets but they are classified into honourable prophets and dishonourable prophets. Both are preachers of the gospel but they are classified into honourable preachers and dishonourable preachers. Both are teachers of the gospel and the Master puts them to use, but they are classified by Him into honourable teachers and dishonourable teachers. The difference between the honourable and dishonourable vessel of God is the absence or presence of sin in their lives. If you value your giftedness above holiness you will become a dishonourable vessel in the hands of God. Serving God in sin cannot take you far in this Christian journey. BEWARE!
Thought for the day: You cannot serve a holy God in sin and be justified.
Song for the day: Create in me a clean heart, oh Lord…..
Bible reading for the day: Exodus 22-24; Matthew 20:17-34
