HOLINESS REVIVAL MOVEMENT WORLDWIDE HOREMOW
DAILY DEVOTIONAL BY PASTOR PAUL RIKA INTERNATIONAL DIRECTOR.
DATE: SUNDAY JULY 5, 2026.
TOPIC: BROKENNESS IS A SIGN OF SPIRITUAL MATURITY
TEXT: MATTHEW 16:24-27
24. Then said Jesus unto His disciples, If any man will come after Me, let him deny himself, and take up his cross, and follow Me.
25. For whosoever will save his life shall lose it: and whosoever will lose his life for My sake shall find it.
26. For what is a man profited, if he shall gain the whole world, and lose his own soul? or what shall a man give in exchange for his soul?
27. For the Son of man shall come in the glory of His Father with His angels; and then He shall reward every man according to his works.
KEY VERSE: PSALM 51 VERSE 17. The sacrifices of God are a broken spirit: A broken and a contrite heart, O God, thou wilt not despise.
The real test of your salvation and sanctification experience is the amount of your brokenness. True brokenness is not just about emotional pain; it is about surrendering to God in all things even when His will is contrary to your desire. It is about laying down your agenda, dreams and aspirations and taking up the will and call of God.
When you are broken before God, you are no longer driven by pride or self-interest, but by the Spirit of Christ within you. This kind of brokenness is what makes you obedient, simple and dependent on God. It is not about achieving excellence but about being willing to be used, no matter the cost.
When you are broken before God, you are saying, "l am empty, shapen me." You should avail yourself like a clay in potter's hand. In Jeremiah 18:6 O house of Israel, cannot I do with you as this potter? saith the LORD. Behold, as the clay is in the potter's hand, so are ye in Mine hand, O house of Israel.
The Potter molds the clay into something beautiful, but first, he has to soften it, make it pliable. That is brokenness. You can never be vessel unto honour if you are not broken. God finds it difficult to use unbroken Christians because they are not soft and pliable in God's hands. ( 2 Timothy 2:20-21)
Are you teachable? Are you obedient? Are you dependable? Are you reliable? The extent at which you have all these Christain virtues determines your level of spiritual maturity. Do you still fight, yet you claim to be born again? Do you obey God's instruction per second? Brokenness is the hallmark of your salvation.
Genesis 12, God told Abraham to leave his country, family and everything he knew to follow Him, Abraham did not know where he was going or what lies ahead but he obeyed. He was broken to God's will, and that surrender led to a mighty nation of Israel and a blessing to the world. As you are going out today, determine in your heart to make necessary changes in your life so that unbelievers will not question your salvation.
Thought for the day: God will never despise a broken and contrite heart.
Song for the day: Create in me a clean heart ooh Lord.
Bible reading for the day: Proverbs 18-20
