Significance Of The Holy Communion
Friday 17th April
Text: 1 Corinthians 11:23-30
Key Verse: John 14:15 If ye love Me, keep My commandments.
Holy communion, also called the Lord's supper, is a rite Jesus instituted His followers to observe often, in remembrance of His sacrificial death for them until He returns to rapture the saints. The fact that this rite was carried out in the evening does not mean it must only be taken in the evening. What is significant here is the memory it communicates to the church concerning the sacrificial death of Jesus anytime it is taken. The Lord's further revelation to apostle Paul confirms the observance of this rite in the church.
From today’s reading text, the following are stated in Apostle Paul's presentation:
The bread represented the body of Christ.
The wine (non-alcoholic) represented the blood of Christ.
The taking of those two items is in remembrance of Jesus' death till He returns.
This rite is to be observed often by the Church.
The partakers must ensure there is no unconfessed and unrepented sin in their lives; hence, self-examination is required.
It is dangerous for sinners to partake of this rite in their sins and wickedness.
Judgment follows those who stubbornly take these substances in sin.
Thought For The Day: Don’t treat the matter of Holy Communion lightly.
Song For The Day: This is My body broken for you, and as you eat it, remember Me.
