We Must See God In His Mercy And Judgment.
Friday 21st November
Text: Psalm 101: 1 – 2
Key verse: Psalm 25: 4 “Shew me Thy ways O Lord, teach me Thy paths.”
A holy leader must cultivate the life of self-discipline in Biblical truth, righteousness and holiness. He must, as a leader, be disciplinary over God's people under him to remove the wicked and perfect the saints for the service of the Lord. Many people enter into the Christian ministry and leadership without knowing what it is and the kind of personal life and commitment required in ministry and Christian leadership. Apostle Paul says, such are beating the air and have no clear goal before them, hence, they cannot win the medal. Those who want to receive the reward of Christian ministry and leadership must make a firm resolution and pursue it by employing the instrument of scriptural discipline to achieve excellent life and ministry.
This is the standard every true and righteous leader must have. We must see God both in His mercy and judgment. We must see God in His goodness and His severity; in His kindness and in His punishment; in His salvation and in His condemnation. In His quickening people back to life and in His destroying people forever. You need to see God in these two respects; Mercy and Judgment. Thus, in the service of God, you need to see Him in these two aspects. We speak often of His grace, kindness, love and forgiveness. All things will work for your good, surely God will show you kindness, God will forgive your sins but see God also as a judge.
You have the privilege to serve God now but you can lose it. Is it that God really lacked people to serve Him, that is why you are behaving like this? Or is that the reason why you are careless, saying “Is He not happy that I am even trying? Is there anyone else in this place?” Do you understand what you are saying? Who made that place and who made you? You mean God has no power to deal with you that is why you abuse Him to His face? You do not know Him! When He dealt with Nebuchadnezzar, after he returned from the holiday of being an animal, he came back to his senses and said “Now I know that the Most High reigns in the kingdom of men.”
