TEXT: Deuteronomy 28:11-13
KEY VERSE: And the LORD shall make thee the head, and not the tail; and thou shalt be above only, and thou shalt not be beneath; if that thou hearken unto the commandments of the LORD thy God, which I command thee this day, to observe and to do them. Deuteronomy 28: 13
How many times have you dreamed of progressing in the work of God, your family or community and your only problem is lack of funds? You have prayed and fasted yet there is no progress. It is only dream, dream, dream! You know that in order to progress in life you must prosper. But “how and when” is the question. The Lord is interested in your plight and wants to expose you to knowledge and wisdom for Christian Progress and Prosperity. There are many who do not understand God’s way of doing things, especially as it relates to prosperity. We know what is supposed to happen, but we are not seeing it happen as we have been led to believe. As a result, many have become disillusioned with the church and with God. Many believers are bombarded with various unbiblical views of wealth. At one extreme are those who preach a prosperity gospel of “health and wealth” for all believers. At the other extreme are radical Christians who condemn all wealth and imply that a rich Christian is a contradiction of holiness. What, then, is the true biblical view of wealth?
At first glance, it would appear the Bible teaches that wealth is an irredeemable obstacle to salvation. The preachings of Jesus against materialism seem to reinforce this belief. The apostles also preached in the same manner. Specifically, Jesus said in Luke 12:15, “Take heed, and beware of covetousness: for a man's life consisteth not in the abundance of the things which he possesseth,” and apostle Paul wrote in 1 Timothy 6:10, “For the love of money is the root of all evil: which while some coveted after, they have erred from the faith, and pierced themselves through with many sorrows.” Notwithstanding the foregoing, God has not specifically forbidden His children from being wealthy for He is the source of all wealth and He gives to people as He wills, including His children. The only caution is that wealth must not replace God in your life. Abraham, Isaac, Jacob, Job, David, Solomon were all wealthy and they did not lose their salvation. Tomorrow we shall examine three basic principles about Christian wealth.
Thought for the day: Riches are from God, but let it not be an obstacle to your heavenly journey.
Song for the day: My hope is built on nothing less
Bible reading for the day:
Psalms 34-35; Acts 22
