TOPIC: JESUS IS OUR EXAMPLE OF SUFFERING
JULY SATURDAY 14th

TEXT: 1 Peter 2:21-25

KEY VERSE: Yea, and all that will live godly in Christ Jesus shall suffer persecution. 2 Timothy 3: 12

Jesus was a bundle of suffering. A Man of sorrows, acquainted with grief. In His bed there was no room for Him. As He grew up in ministry the people would pick up stones to stone him. He was despised and hated for no just cause. He would later be taken to the cross for an offence He did not commit, even for the jealousy of men that grew out of the miracles He performed. Those who benefited in the miracle denied Him for fear of man. They spat on his face, they slapped him, they put a crown of thorns on his head, they struck him with a spear, he was mocked and derided until he breathed His last. But His was only an example to us. Tradition has it that Peter had the privilege to experience a little of Jesus’ suffering. His persecutors wanted to crucify him but he was running away from it, so he saw Jesus in a revelation coming to where his persecutors were. Peter asked, “Lord, where are you going?” The Lord answered, “I am going to the cross to be crucified the second time.” “Why?” Peter asked. “You have refused it. It is your time, I left an example for you but you are refusing.” Peter replied, “Lord, you cannot go back to the cross the second time.” So, Peter went back to his persecutors and they crucified him but he requested that they should crucify him upside down.

Why are you running away from suffering? Why are you giving up the gospel, giving up holiness, giving up Jesus because of the persecution of your husband, of your office workers? Jesus left an example for you to follow. Others are following, why are you not following? Is your body more precious than the body of Jesus that you do not want it to be stricken? They struck Jesus, spat on Him and insulted Him, why are you refusing to follow the example of Jesus? You want to show bigmanism? You think your body is too precious to be tortured?

KEY VERSE: It came to pass, as He was praying in a certain place, when He ceased, one of His disciples said, Lord, teach us how to pray as John taught his disciples. Luke 11: 1. When Jesus Christ came to us in the flesh, He went into the business of prayer because He was promoting the attribute of God as a prayer-answering God. He would not render that attribute idle or redundant. Nobody knew how John did it, but Jesus reveals here that the success you saw in the ministry of John the Baptist, the victory you saw in his ministry, is because he was a prayer man. John so much valued prayer. He saw the essentials of pr...
