Believers’ Passion For Soul Winning
Tuesday 6th January
Text: Proverbs 11:30-31
Key Verse: Ezekiel 18:4; Behold, all souls are mine; as the soul of the father, so also the soul of the son is mine: the soul that sinneth, it shall die.
To be effective in soul-winning, you must have a concerned heart towards sinners. Passion for soul-winning is the heart concern of a Christian that leads him to strongly wish the conversion of sinners to Christ and work fervently and tirelessly to achieve it. Driven by his passion, the believer works fervently and tirelessly to bring people to Christ's salvation and righteous living. Passion comes into the believer when he considers the sinful state of the soul; when he looks at the sinner and sees the sins that he commits, and how sin has taken over him. For example, when he sees a drunk on the street bouncing on the way, staggering to and fro, and speaking foolishly because sin has taken over his life; or he sees a harlot in the brothel sitting at the door of her room, waiting for whoever she will damn forever, and counting it a service to humanity, his passion for souls flares up. What a passion comes on the soul-winner when he sees people of various types: the idol worshippers dancing on the streets, or women dressed nakedly just because they have dedicated themselves to the devil. What a concern it is to the soul-winner when he sees the police dragging someone to the police station, beating and slapping him with wounds all over, because he has stolen! What a concern it gives him to see that they are firing some people because they are armed robbers! He gets troubled because of their sinful state, for which in God's judgment they shall be sentenced to eternal damnation in hell. The soul winner is in great sorrow and burden of heart toward the sinners.
Is it nothing to you, all ye that pass by? behold, and see if there be any sorrow like unto my sorrow, which is done unto me, wherewith the LORD hath afflicted me in the day of His fierce anger. For these things I weep; mine eye, mine eye runneth down with water, because the comforter that should relieve my soul is far from me: my children are desolate, because the enemy prevailed. Lamentation 12: 12, 16.
