TOPIC: CARE WELL FOR YOUR SPIRIT, SOUL AND BODY July Tuesday 14th
TEXT: 1 Thessalonians 5:22-24
KEY VERSE: 3 John 1:2 Beloved, I wish above all things that thou mayest prosper and be in health, even as thy soul prospereth.
What today’s reading text is saying is that the three persons in a man – the spirit, the soul and the body, should be well cared for and well preserved. We know that it is the responsibility of God to preserve us blameless to the end and we always pray to God for this. However, we also share in this responsibility. This makes it a dual responsibility. If we do our own part well, God will surely do His own. It is a covenant. It is an agreement between you and God, concerning the preservation of yourself to the end of your life. God will do His own because He is faithful, because you pray to Him, and others intercede for you. But you too must play your own role well. It is the desire of God that we should be spiritually fruitful, holy and healthy.
In 3 John 1:1–2 the Bible says, The elder unto the wellbeloved Gaius, whom I love in the truth. Beloved, I wish above all things that thou mayest prosper and be in health, even as thy soul prospereth. This scripture is restating the same biblical truth. The prosperity of the whole man, the soundness of the whole man, the wellbeing of the whole man - the spirit, the soul and the body - are all desired by God. This should also be our desire for ourselves and fellow brethren. Of course, the spirit and the soul form the spiritual man, which we do not see. What we see is the physical body. We cannot touch our spirit or our soul, and very often, the spirit and the soul are joined very tightly together. The Bible says that it is the word of God that can separate the two, but what we see is the body. So, be careful. Wish your brother his wellbeing. Wish the members of your Church their wellbeing. Paul said, I have not shunned to present unto you all that is profitable for you, because I desire your wellbeing. I desire your spiritual welfare. I desire your bodily welfare also, that you may prosper in health. We need it, we want you to be healthy in the body. If you are not healthy, how do you carry out the work of God?
