GOD’S EXPECTATIONS IN CHRISTIAN MERRAIGE
April Saturday 21st
Text: Proverbs 5:18-21
Key Verse: Proverbs 5:21 For the ways of man are before the eyes of the LORD, and he pondereth all his goings.
In our reading text, the bible tells us about some functions and expectations in marriage.
1. God wants you to enjoy each other. Proverbs 5:19 Let her be as the loving hind and pleasant roe; let her breasts satisfy thee at all times; and be thou ravished always with her love. God wants you to satisfy each other - to enjoy each other's love and be satisfied with each other’s body. You are not together for procreation only but also for pleasure. Husband and wife must take pleasure in love making and not see it as spiritually unhealthy a sinful thing to do. It is part of God’s plan for marriage.
2. Divorce is not an option in marriage. Pro 5:18 Let thy fountain be blessed: and rejoice with the wife of thy youth. “The wife of your youth” indicates that both of you are bound from youth till old age. Therefore, be careful who you marry, because once you do, you cannot get out of it. This is why it is necessary to follow biblical process of marriage and allow God to lead you to your marriage partner. For singles, listen to the message: FROM KNOWING THE WILL OF GOD TO WEDDING by Pastor Paul Rika for thorough guidance.
3. Extramarital affair is forbidden. Proverbs 5:20 And why wilt thou, my son, be ravished with a strange woman, and embrace the bosom of a stranger? Any woman outside the bride of your youth is a strange woman. Those who lie with strange women are unwise. Proverbs 6:28-29 Can one go upon hot coals, and his feet not be burned? 29 So he that goeth in to his neighbour's wife; whosoever toucheth her shall not be innocent.
4. Let love rule your marriage. Ephesians 5:33 Nevertheless let every one of you in particular so love his wife even as himself; and the wife see that she reverence her husband. In Christian marriage, money and childbearing are secondary issues. Lack of any should not diminish the love for each other. Ill health may be a challenge, but this is the best time to show true love because this is the time your ailing partner needs you most.
Thought for the day: Make your marriage an example for others to emulate.
Song for the day: Christian walk carefully.
Bible reading for the day:
2Samuel 1-3; Luke 18:1-17
