ANOINTING IS NOT HOLINESS, CHARISMA IS NOT CHARACTER
April Tuesday 17th
Text: Luke 10:17-20
Key Verse: Leviticus 10:3 Then Moses said unto Aaron, This is it that the LORD spake, saying, I will be sanctified in them that come nigh me, and before all the people I will be glorified. And Aaron held his peace.
Calling and anointing are required for service. Holiness is for heaven. John 15:16 Ye have not chosen me, but I have chosen you, and ordained you, that ye should go and bring forth fruit, and that your fruit should remain: that whatsoever ye shall ask of the Father in my name, he may give it you. “Go and bring forth fruit” is a calling. “And that your fruit should remain,” is still part of the calling. 1 Corinthians 13:13 And now abideth faith, hope, charity, these three; but the greatest of these is charity. This is holiness. Matthew 5:8 Blessed are the pure in heart: for they shall see God. Purity. Righteousness and holiness are required for heaven. Hebrews 12:14 Follow peace with all men, and holiness, without which no man shall see the Lord.
Not all that run the race and engage in service enter into heaven. You can be careless with your spiritual life and serve in the flesh either as a cleaner in the church, driver, preacher, singer or pastor and end up in hell. Be careful that you don't end your service with Satan. Paul understood this truth and guided his ministry against spiritual complacency. 1 Corinthians 9:25-27 And every man that striveth for the mastery is temperate in all things. Now they do it to obtain a corruptible crown; but we an incorruptible. 26 I therefore so run, not as uncertainly; so fight I, not as one that beateth the air: 27 But I keep under my body, and bring it into subjection: lest that by any means, when I have preached to others, I myself should be a castaway.
The error of celebrating anointing and ignoring holiness of life is not new in the church. In our reading text for today, we can see that the disciples of Jesus had also fallen into the same error. Jesus had empowered them and sent them out on evangelism. When they returned, they were over excited by the mighty miracles, signs and wonders that accompanied their ministry. They told Jesus, “Lord, even the devils are subject unto us through thy name.” Luke 10:17. Jesus saw their error and needed to correct them immediately, lest they got carried away by anointing and neglect the most important things in their life – holiness and salvation! So, Jesus replied them, “Notwithstanding in this rejoice not, that the spirits are subject unto you; but rather rejoice, because your names are written in heaven.” Luke 10:20. Your joy is in your salvation, not your anointing. Watch your Christian life that you don’t promote anointing above holiness.
Thought for the day: Not all that run the race enter heaven. So run so as to get the reward.
Song for the day: Make me worthy o Lord
Bible reading for the day:
1Samuel 22:24; Luke 16:1-18
