Topic: Shun Carnality October Monday 26th
Text: 1 Corinthians 3:1-3
Key verse: 1 Corinthians 3:3 For ye are yet carnal, for whereas (there is) among you envying and strife and division, are ye not carnal and walk as men?
James and John went to Jesus and said, we want you to let us seat on your left and right hand side in your kingdom. What about the other people? You are looking for gain. What is prompting this game even though you are a child of God? This spirit of gain is from the Adamic nature. The sinful nature has to be dealt with. Jesus was to pass through a town in Samaria but the people refused. James and John wanted to command fire from heaven to destroy them. Such reaction is unexpected and unreasonable for a believer. Jesus rebuked them: You do not know what Spirit you are of. That is why He prayed that God should sanctify them that these infirmities would not be among them, otherwise, when people see them struggling, how will they believe they are His disciples? Jesus came to deal with the sin problem perfectly.
Hebrews 9:14 How much more shall the blood of Christ, who through the eternal Spirit offered himself without spot to God, purge your conscience from dead works to serve the living God? He will deliver us and give us the grace to serve the Lord in holiness and righteousness all the days of our lives. That means He will give us a righteous heart that will not fall into sin.
It is saddening to find carnality in the Church of Christ among the brethren who profess to be born again. They still manifest envy and strife here and there among themselves. As long as you manifest some wrong attitudes, you are still carnal. If you always seek to subdue everyone and ensure everything must be as you want, then you are still carnal. If as a leader you are always fearful that you may be removed, it is a sign of insecurity caused by your adamic nature. If you are born again, why are you feeling insecure? This is inward pollution troubling you; otherwise, “Great peace have they that love thy law and nothing shall offend them.” The holiness of the church is dampened by carnal people who profess holiness by mouth but do not actually have it in their life as they lack sanctification.
Thought for the day: Pray for sanctification.
Song for the day: Make me holy
Bible reading for the day:
Jeremiah 17-19; 1 Timothy 6
