TOPIC: DO NOT ALLOW HUMAN TRADITION TO SPOIL YOUR CHRISTIANITY
TEXT: 1 Corinthians 1:19-23
KEY VERSE: Romans 16:17 Now I beseech you, brethren, mark them which cause divisions and offences contrary to the doctrine which ye have learned; and avoid them.
Most of the churches these days exist for the doom of members because they don’t preach the full gospel message that saves. The truth is just not there! Yet, some of the members’ umbilical cords are tied to them and they seem inseparable like Siamese twins simply because they were born into it. Should it be so even after you have come to the knowledge of the truth of the word of God that sets you free from the bondage of Satan? You still want to remain in the bondage of denominational tradition? Has the truth not been revealed to you? Have you not come to know the difference? Why are you still wavering between two options, moving here and there? Why are you not thinking straight on heaven?
Lot’s wife must have thought in her mind, “This country in which we have lived for long, why are we leaving it for another? Why is God asking us to leave this place when I am still enjoying it?” She turned back and became a pillar of salt. Your Christian life is not making progress because you are held tight by the tradition of men. You are not experiencing the liberty in Christ through the real knowledge of God. Yes, you come to conferences and special programmes but when you go back you don’t attend chapter meetings. All you say is, “When it is time for another conference, please inform me.” How do you want to make much progress in your Christian life when you are not feeding your soul regularly with pure milk of the word of God for your spiritual nourishment? Colossians 2:8 Beware lest any man spoil you through philosophy and vain deceit, after the tradition of men, after the rudiments of the world, and not after Christ.” Why are you allowing tradition to spoil you? Why are you allowing tribal union to spoil you? Why are you allowing relations to spoil you? Your Christian life and commitment can be spoilt by the rudiments of this world and high sounding philosophies of men; so, be careful.
Thought for the day: There is no salvation in church tradition, but in the word of God.
