TOPIC: DON’T GIVE YOURSELF CHEAP TO SATAN
TEXT: Mark 10:17-23
KEY VERSE: Ephesians 3:16 That he would grant you, according to the riches of his glory, to be strengthened with might by his Spirit in the inner man;
In today’s Bible reading, we see how the rich young man was offended. He wanted to know what to do to inherit the kingdom of God. Jesus told him to keep the commandment of love etc. and he said he has done all that. But when Jesus went further to instruct him to sell what he had and give to the poor so as to have treasure in heaven, he became downcast and went away. There is always a price to pay for following Jesus. Which son is not chastised by his father? Which teacher does not test his students? Which educational institution does not set examinations before graduating students? Why was the rich young man grieved because of riches? Can the riches save him from hell? Couldn’t he have escaped hell without the riches? Did Jesus really mean to remove all the wealth from him? Was he not going to give him something better than material wealth? Did Jesus really mean that Isaac should die? Was He not just trying to see how Abraham would react?
You were failing God’s trial in the past because of ignorance, but from today you will pass the test because you have understood. Now you know that an angel is standing by marking your paper. Therefore, you will not allow any evil thoughts to take root in your mind. In your privacy you will not allow evil talk to come out of your mouth for God knew when Sarah doubted. Therefore, be strong in the Lord and in faith. We wrestle with the devil at all times. Even as you are listening to a sermon or as you are reading the devotional and the Lord is sowing a seed into your heart, the devil is also standing by to see which people he could steal the word from. How are you going to handle offences? Somebody steps on your toes (whether deliberately or accidentally); he may be an agent of Satan to cause you offence and steal your peace. We wrestle because Satan does not want righteousness. He has convinced his own children in the world and they have agreed with him that they will stand against righteousness. So wherever the children of God are, they are also there to cause commotion and win souls for Satan their master. Don’t give yourself cheap to Satan. Resist the devil.
Thought for the day: Make sure you don’t fall for the tricks and deception of Satan.
Song for the day: I know my Redeemer liveth………
