TOPIC: LOVE IN DEEDS, NOT IN WORDS
TEXT: 1 Corinthians 13:4-8
KEY VERSE: 1John 3:18 My little children, let us not love in word, neither in tongue; but in deed and in truth.
God is love. Christianity is love. Love is practical and proven by deeds. Christianity is practical and proven by deeds. Christianity without practical proof is hypocrisy. Fake Christianity cannot take you to heaven; it will not take you beyond the grave. Let your love be true and genuine as proof of your relationship with Christ. Let me narrate two contrasting stories of love to explain this.
Story 1: There was a very poor man who lived with his wife whose hair was so long that it touched her waist. One day, she asked her husband to buy her a comb for her long hair so it could be well groomed. The man felt sorry and said he did not have money even to fix the strap of his wristwatch which had just broken. The wife did not insist. On his way to work, he sold his wristwatch at a low price and bought the comb. When he came back that evening, he was surprised to see her with very short hair. She had cut and sold her hair and bought a new wristwatch for her husband. Tears flowed simultaneously from their eyes, not because of the futility of their actions but for the reciprocity of their love.
Story 2: There was a blind sister who hated herself because she was blind. She hated everyone, except a brother that has shown so much love and care for her. She told the brother, 'If only I could see the world, I will marry you.' The brother too had a conviction that she could be his wife. One day, someone donated a pair of eyes to her. When the bandages came off, she was able to see everything, including the brother. The brother asked her, ’Now that you can see the world, will you marry me?' The sister looked at the brother and saw that he was blind. The sight of his closed eyelids shocked her. She never thought the brother could be blind also. The thought of looking at them the rest of her life led her to refuse to marry him. The brother left her in tears and days later wrote a note to her saying: 'Take good care of your eyes, my dear, for before they were yours, they were mine. I donated my eyes to make you see and marry me, but now you have rejected me.'
These two stories show the difference between love by mere word and love by deed. Let us love by deeds, not just by words.
Thought for the day: Let us love in truth.
Song for the day: Bind us together Lord, bind us together in love that cannot be broken…..
Bible reading for the day:
Psalms 119:49-104; 1 Corinthians 4 #Horemow.
