TUESDAYMAY 15
TOPIC: FRIENDSHIP AND RELATIONSHIP WITH YOUR MARRIAGE PARTNER
TEXT: Colossians 3:13-15
Key verse: Ecclesiastes 9:9 Live joyfully with the wife whom thou lovest all the daysof the life of thy vanity, which he hath given thee under the sun, all the days of thyvanity: for that is thy portion in this life, and in thy labour which thou takest underthe sun.
Love is essential in sustenance of marriage. Forgive one another and do not keep grievances. Do not live in mutual suspicion but trust one another. It means being free and open to one another, encouraging one another and doing things that make husband and wife to come closely together. Adultery should not be mentioned in a Christian home. Hebrews 13:4 Marriage is honourable in all, and the bed undefiled: but whoremongers and adulterers God will judge.
Proverbs 18:22 Whoso findeth a wife findeth a good thing , and obtaineth favour of the Lord. When you have a good thing you cherish it and speak well of it. You are made for each other and you are to enjoy benefit of each other to the fullest. Each of you is to have a magnetic pull on the other. The language of communication to your partner should be love and appreciation as we discover all through the book of Song of Solomon.
Here is a snippet of exchange of appreciation between the couple. The bride professes her love: Let him kiss me with the kisses of his mouth: for thy love better than wine (Song of Solomon 1:2). And Solomon gives a delightful response: If thou know not, O thou fairest among women, go thy way forth by the footsteps of the flock, and feed thy kids beside the shepherds' tents (Song of Solomon 1:8). When loving language replaces hateful words in the home, peace will reign and the family will be healthy.
The relationship between husband and wife is a mystery. For two strangers to be fused together to become one indivisible entity is only similar to the fusion of Christ and his church. Ephesians 5:32 This is a great mystery: but I speak concerning Christ and the church. Marriage should demonstrate what Christ is to the church in love, in patience, in tolerance, in forgiveness, in favour, in sacrifice, and in seeking its eternal wellbeing.
Wife, cheer up your husband. The stress of economic downturn is enough for him. Lighten his burden; don't add to it. Husband, cheer up your wife. The home management she is going through in order to put food on the table in spite of the little money you give out is enough for her. Lighten her burden and do not add to it. No need quarrelling over your individual shortcomings. Let the faithful spouse pray for the derelict spouse. Do your best to encourage defaulting children. If your spouse is not
giving you food at the right time or is denying you sex, just be calm and behave as if you
are a bachelor. Same for the woman.
Thought for the day: Do all you can to make your marriage peaceful and enjoyable.
Song for the day: Joy, joy, joy every day in Jesus, there is joy every day
Bible reading for the: 2 Kings 12-14; John 5:25-47
