REGULAR FAMILY DEVOTION – PART 1
Text: 2 Timothy 1:3-5
Key Verse: 2 Timothy 2:15 Study to shew thyself approved unto God, a workman that needeth not to be ashamed, rightly dividing the word of truth.
Before you can have a healthy, righteous Christian home you must have a family altar where family members converge every morning to hold family devotion. God is interested in family health and wellbeing because the condition of the family determines the condition of the society and the world at large. A family coming together to read and study the word and pray together edifies God. This way you can access the same truth, live by this truth and operate on the same spiritual wavelength. Family devotion will flow from personal devotional life. Steady personal devotional life involves personal discipline. If you have a steady personal devotional life you will not spend the time for devotion cooking in the kitchen or watching TV or reading newspapers or browsing on Internet.
Daily devotion is an engagement with God as first priority of the day to commit your going out and coming in into his hands and to seek his face on which way to go. Pro 3:5-8 Trust in the LORD with all thine heart; and lean not unto thine own understanding. 6 In all thy ways acknowledge him, and he shall direct thy paths. 7 Be not wise in thine own eyes: fear the LORD, and depart from evil. 8 It shall be health to thy navel, and marrow to thy bones.
Righteous Zacharias and Elisabeth are a good example of a devoted family. Luke 1:5-6 There was in the days of Herod, the king of Judaea, a certain priest named Zacharias, of the course of Abia: and his wife was of the daughters of Aaron, and her name was Elisabeth. [6] And they were both righteous before God, walking in all the commandments and ordinances of the Lord blameless.
Wicked Ahab and Jezebel are a bad example of undevoted family. 1 Kings 16:30-33 And Ahab the son of Omri did evil in the sight of the Lord above all that were before him. [31] And it came to pass, as if it had been a light thing for him to walk in the sins of Jeroboam the son of Nebat, that he took to wife Jezebel the daughter of Ethbaal king of the Zidonians, and went and served Baal, and worshipped him. [32] And he reared up an altar for Baal in the house of Baal, which he had built in Samaria. [33] And Ahab made a grove; and Ahab did more to provoke the Lord God of Israel to anger than all the kings of Israel that were before him.
Thought for the day: Institute regular family devotion to promote righteousness in the family.
Song for the day: O give us Christian home
Bible reading for the day:
2Kings 9-11; John 5:1-24
