Topic: Sanctification and Holy Spirit Baptism for Believers November Friday 20th
Text: John 17:17; Acts 1:4-5
Key verse: Psalm 51:7 Purge me with hyssop, and I shall be clean: wash me, and I shall be whiter than snow.
It is common place for a believer growing in Christ to have inner struggle with envy, malice, anger, pride, stubbornness, lust and moral weakness, which often time defile him to his embarrassment and sorrow before God and man. This is so even though the believer is not seen committing sin outwardly as he shows forth clearly evidence of salvation from sin. The Spirit bears witness in his heart that he is a child of God, but he notices inner impurity that challenges his total freedom. These are called remnants of sin, ‘inbred sin’ or the ‘adamic nature’ in the believer. Something needs to be done to usher him into fullness of righteousness, holiness and love in Christ. What is required in the believer's life is a spiritual experience called SANCTIFICATION. Jesus prayed for all believers that they may be sanctified so that they may be ushered into full expression of holiness in their lives.
A dirty cloth that is washed in a bowl of soap still needs a second wash in another bowl of clean water for rinsing in order to remove all dirt from it to make it completely clean. Sanctification experience is for those who are already born again to make them completely holy before God. Jesus gave Himself for the believer's sanctification and holiness. As salvation is received by repentance and faith in Christ, so also is sanctification received by consecration and faith in Christ.
All true children of God have the Spirit of Christ in them, which is the Holy Spirit. But for the purpose of Christian service and speaking in tongues, God promises every believer baptism with the Holy Spirit. This experience gives the believer higher power for Christian service. The believer baptized with the Spirit speaks in tongues by the inspiration of the Holy Spirit as evidence that he has received the baptism of the Holy Spirit. Speaking in tongues is God's divine provision for the believer to strengthen and increase his prayer power. Ask God earnestly for baptism with the Holy Spirit. Ask importunately until you notice yourself speaking in tongues by the inspiration of the Holy Spirit. Amen!
