There Are Scriptural Requirements To Meet Before Water Baptism

Text: Acts 8: 35 – 40

Monday June 3rd

Key verse: Acts 8: 36 “And as they went on their way, they came unto a certain water; and the eunuch said, See, here is water, what doth hinder me to be baptized?”
As Philip preached unto the Ethiopian eunuch, he also preached baptism in the name of Jesus; baptism as instructed by Jesus. That is what Philip preached to the eunuch. The man was convicted and Philip showed that water baptism is not for everybody. There are people that cannot be baptized. Those who have not believed with all their heart, with evidence of change cannot be baptized. When you were baptized were you born again? Did you believe in Jesus or did you do it as a show?
For instance, when a certain young man was baptized, his girlfriend came that Sunday and they celebrated the water baptism in immorality. When the girlfriend was baptized in her church, they also celebrated it with immorality. This is not scriptural baptism but many churches allow such an abuse; baptizing sinners without checking them because of membership drive. They are aware of his sinful life but they just want him to start eating holy communion, to become a full member so that they can control him and collect his tithes. So, they baptize anybody they want.
Philip was firm in his answer to the Ethiopian eunuch; a big man for that matter. Minister of finance yet he followed the standard. He said only those who have believed fully. The man said, ‘I have believed fully.’ Did that little child that was baptized believe fully? Did he hear the gospel with understanding? Why did you baptize him? Why are you baptizing people as if God does not have standards? If you were baptized as a child, it is not the commandment of scripture. It is the work of ignorance yet people in ignorance will still perish. Learn the truth and do it.

Thought for the day: Scriptural water baptism is part of the gospel message which gives eternal life.

Song for the day: Jesus has done what no man can do for me, He has saved me …

Bible reading for the day: Job 31-34

KEY VERSE: It came to pass, as He was praying in a certain place, when He ceased, one of His disciples said, Lord, teach us how to pray as John taught his disciples. Luke 11: 1. When Jesus Christ came to us in the flesh, He went into the business of prayer because He was promoting the attribute of God as a prayer-answering God. He would not render that attribute idle or redundant. Nobody knew how John did it, but Jesus reveals here that the success you saw in the ministry of John the Baptist, the victory you saw in his ministry, is because he was a prayer man. John so much valued prayer. He saw the essentials of pr...
