TOPIC: TESTIMONY OF
RESTITUTION TO GOVERNMENT – Senator Emmanuel Bwacha
TEXT: Psalm 37:5-6
KEY VERSE: 1 Thessalonians
2:10
There was this very serious
restitution I did. I was once the Chairman of the Committee on Police
Affairs of the House of Representatives and I remembered the things
that transpired when I was in office - the bribes, the monies that
exchanged hands before one could attend to any proposal etc. So when
I remembered all those things, I decided to go and meet the incumbent
Inspector-General of Police. When I met him in his house and he saw
me (he knew me well because when I was in the House he was quite a
junior officer but at this time, he had risen to the peak), he said,
“Is there anything my Chairman?” I said, “I have come to you on
a different matter.” Then he sat to listen to me. I said to him,
“Do you remember this and that event that happened while I was
serving as Chairman?” (Incidentally, he knew some of those things).
Then I said, “Now my eyes have opened and you are the
Inspector-General of Police. I have come to seek for forgiveness
because it was a crime against the Government. I am seeking for your
forgiveness because you are in a position to forgive me, otherwise
you could prosecute me. I ask that you forgive me because I know that
I did wrong.” He was surprised and said, “Ah! But chairman, you
know you were helping your people.” I replied, “No, but it was
wrong.” He was surprised because what I was saying was very strange
to him. He might have even thought I was out of my mind. Then he
said, “This thing has already passed, why are you bothering about
it?” I said, “No, it is in my record before God.” So he looked
at me and said, “In that case, I have forgiven you,” and I was
very happy.
When I walked out from there,
I was just thanking God because he could simply have detained and
prosecuted me. I prayed before going to him and the Lord granted me
favour. I enjoyed my peace and it also gives me a guide in what I
would do next. In anything I am doing now, I am very careful so that
tomorrow I would not have to go back to do another restitution. Now,
that which is not my own, I stay away from it. If you are coming to
appreciate me, that is a different matter and I will receive it with
thanksgiving but I will not touch anything that does not belong to
me.

Restitution brings peace of mind.

Jesus every day by day, nothing can harm me……
