TOPIC: THE DRESSING OF THE GODLY WOMAN
TEXT: 1 Timothy 2:9-10
KEY VERSE: Proverbs 7:10 And, behold, there met him a woman with the attire of an harlot, and subtil of heart.
In a time when the owner of the souls of men is about to come, instead of people to cleanse themselves from all forms of ungodliness, they are rather going deep into the fashion the devil introduced to destroy them in hell. The devil has penetrated the church of Christ and is using his agents (fake pastors) to keep people in total darkness and bondage. As a Christian woman, the way you dress matters because the Bible says, without holiness, nobody can see the Lord (Hebrews 12:14). Many have the wrong notion that God only looks at the heart and is not concerned about our outward appearance or how we dress. Such notion is from people who are ignorant of the essential properties of holiness. The Bible says, for this same emphasis of holiness of life, the women of old adorned themselves in modest apparel. Don't dress roughly and don't dress in a shabby way as to bring shame to the name of the Lord. Don’t be dirty.
Today’s reading text and similar ones set the godly standard of dressing for Christian women. Women should adorn themselves in nice, clean, fine, but modest and godly apparel in the spirit of shamefacedness; covering all parts of the body and leaving no part exposed. Dress with shamefacedness and sobriety. Not with braided hair or fanciful hairdo like harlots on the streets who advertise their bodies for sale. Her dressing should not be with gold or any form of jewelry either. According to the Bible, all these things belong to Satan. Gold, pearls, etc. are very costly and the women in those days hung them on themselves to add to their dignitary. They are not just normal things of life but materials of vain glory. They are for the pride of women. They are to create artificial beauty for the woman in order to attract men, seduce them and pollute the society, which runs against the tenet of a holy and godly Christian life. Such provocative dresses of costly array also create class distinction and promote self above others. The wearer gets puffed up in them and receives compliments from admirers, while looking down on others. This is pride and unfruitful for a child of God who is desirous of going to heaven.
Thought for the day: Apart from your heart condition God is also interested in your appearance.
Song for the day: Sing them over again to me, wonderful words of life……
