CHOOSE LIFE
JUNE Sunday 10th
TEXT: GENESIS 2:15-17
Key Verse: Deuteronomy 30:19 I call heaven and earth to record this day against you, that I have set before you life and death, blessing and cursing: therefore choose life, that both thou and thy seed may live:
God placed two options before Adam - to live or die. God will not force his will on any man, including the choice of eternal life (John 3:16-18; Matt. 28:19-20). Adam made a wrong choice.
Adam's bad choice introduced the miseries we are experiencing in the world today - wickedness, evil, diseases, poverty, injustice and death. Has man learnt any lesson from the error of Adam? Not quite! With the exception of a negligible few, descendants of Adam from the first generation up till now have continued to make wrong choices in life, for the wickedness of man is great in the earth, and every imagination of the thoughts of his heart is only evil continually. God has placed before you the same choices. If you say in your heart, if I were Adam I would have made a better choice; make that choice now. The choice you make extends beyond your generation. Adam's wrong choice corrupted Cain's life and led him to sin. His choice has put every man born of a woman in the bondage of sin up till now. What is your own choice? Learn from the choices made by the following Bible characters:
1. THE PRODIGAL SON (Luke 15:11-32). He made a bad choice as Adam did. He chose easy life, pleasure, immorality, drinking spree. He got disconnected from the source. He was shortsighted. He drank satanic alcohol and lost his senses. He embarked on riotous living. Those who pursue money, women, pleasure etc. have lost their senses. He suffered the penalty. Are you already suffering the consequences of your wrong choices? Prayer cannot help you out of your wrong choice. Fasting cannot. Night vigil cannot. Have you made wrong choices in divorce, marrying another person's wife, getting employment with false certificate, joining bad gang to defraud people etc. The prodigal son came to his senses and reversed his choice. You too must come back to your senses and reverse the wrong choice you have made. Do your restitution.
2. RUTH (Ruth 1:6-18). The future looked bleak, but Ruth acted on faith showing exemplary love. This is in contrast to the prodigal son whose focus was on the immediate. Ruth was prepared to sacrifice but the prodigal son preferred a life of pleasure. Ruth refused to be persuaded to reject suffering as a believer. Are you ready to damn the consequences and do your restitution? To return stolen money and property? To move out of the house of a man that belongs to another woman? Are you ready to close your eye to easy money? Going to heaven has a cost. To sleep in a five-star hotel, you must be ready to pay the price. Heaven is more than a five-star hotel! By Ruth's good choice she became an ancestor of Jesus.
Thought for the day: The choices you make in life eventually determine your eternal destiny.
Song for the day: All that concerns me is touching God…
Bible reading for the day: 2 Chronicles 32-33; John 18:24-40
