TOPIC: DANGEROUS CONSEQUENCES OF MANIPULATING THE SCRIPTURES. TUESDAY AUGUST 15
TEXT: JEREMIAH 28:1-17
KEY VERSE: “As also in the epistles, speaking in them of these things; in which are some things hard to be understood, which they that are unlearned and unstable wrest, as they do also the other scriptures, unto their own destruction.” (2 Peter 3:16).
We must beware of the danger of “adding to” or “taking away” from the word of God. Most of the corruptions of the sacred scriptures have been caused by those who have professed some form of Christianity. Infidels have but little interest in attempting crew changes and even if they tried they would not wield enough influence to make their error received by the church. Serious alterations of the letter and spirit of the word have been effected by the addition or removal of a single word, the deliberate twisting of plain truths of scripture to serve private, selfish interests, over-spiritualizing of plain texts, making the scriptures subservient to dreams and visions, and the so-called lower and higher criticism taught in some seminaries.
The most solemn of expressions are employed in warning believers against “adding to” or “taking away” from the scriptures. Does the phrase, “For I testify” refer to John alone or to Jesus too? John truly bore testimony but these are not merely the words of a scribe, nor are they even the words of John, the inspired writer of the book of Revelation, but of the Lord Jesus Christ, the true and Faithful Witness. “He which testifieth these things saith, surely I come quickly” refers to Jesus by whose authority John bore testimony to the damnation awaiting all who alter God's revelation, the scriptures. “But continue thou in the things which thou hast learned…” The secret of preventing any deviation from scriptures is steadfastness in studying and obeying it. Continuation is the sure antidote to corruption. Deliberate, disciplined and daily intake of God's word has been a source of spiritual strength and succor to generations of Christians. Contemporary believers are sometimes so preoccupied with legitimate earthly pursuits that no time is left for a consistent prayer life and meditation. Commitment to the scriptures means that we read it prayerfully, meditate on it patiently, pray on it perseveringly, and obey it in totality. We must not only rejoice in the promises but we must also tremble under the judgments and hasten to obey the commandments.
Do you alter the word of God? Do you add, subtract or even interpret it to suit your interest? Whenever you rejoice in the promises of the scriptures also remember to tremble at the judgments to avoid being doomed in the fire of hell.
Thought for the Day: There is a grave danger in manipulating the scripture.
Song for the Day: Forever O Lord, they Word is settled in heaven…

Them That Sin, Rebuke Before All

God's blessing shall be following you continually for taking the time to study. Them That Sin, Rebuke Before All   Monday 24th March Text: 1 Timothy 5: 19-22 Key verse: Them that sin rebuke before all, that others also may fear. 1 Timothy 5:20 God wants you to avoid doing evil while saying you want to go to heaven. You may be a member of a worldly church and be saying, “It is my tribal church; if I leave them, they will be angry. I do not want them to be angry.” Is it God you want to make angry by your compromise? You will see the anger of God indeed. It is through the word that you perfect the people, and as a result, the Bible says, “Thou shalt not suffer sin upon your brother. Thou shall reprove him.” Your brother or sister has done a bad thing, and you do not bother. You leave them in their sins. They may do the same to other people. The Lord says, “Correct them.” Do not allow sin to be in them because sin will take them to hell. The Bible says, “Them that sin, rebuke befo...

Key verse: "To the law and to the testimony: if they speak not according to this word, it is because there is no light in them" Isaiah 8:20. God has given revelations to many in our days and He is still in the business of doing that. The choice of these messengers is His sovereign will. Some of these revelations are written in books for all to read and some are shared verbally. There are scriptural facts to be understood on these revelation messages. They follow the pattern of scriptural revelations in the Holy Bible. Some are given in plain, simple and direct language, while some are given in pictorial language and figures of speech. The recipient of the revelation may be an ignorant person whose understanding is unfruitful, hence, he may not be capable to interpret the revelation received. Except God gives the grace of interpretation to ...
