14. And when Abram heard that his brother was taken captive, he armed his trained servants, born in his own house, three hundred and eighteen, and pursued them unto Dan.
15. And he divided himself against them, he and his servants, by night, and smote them, and pursued them unto Hobah, which is on the left hand of Damascus.
16. And he brought back all the goods, and also brought again his brother Lot, and his goods, and the women also, and the people.
KEY VERSE: PSALM 144:1 Blessed be the Lord my strength, which teacheth my hands to war, and my fingers to fight.
Vocational training has to do with imparting and acquiring specific skills relevant for specific occupations. The training a would-be gospel instrumentalist needs is different from that of a prospective furniture maker. What needs to be imparted in a person to make him or her an electrician is not the same with that of a hairdresser or barber.
Different occupations require different trainings. Occupations are products of vocational training. It helps to acquire skill which gives birth to occupation. Apostle Paul, Aquila and Priscilla were of the same craft called tent making (Acts 18:1-3). They did not just wake up one day and began to make tents.
They would have gone through a period of training to acquire the technique to do this. What they trained to do became their valued occupation. They earned their living from it. Sidonians were well known in the days of king Solomon as professional hewers of timbers.
When Solomon wanted to build the first temple, he couldn’t find any good hewer of timber among the children of Israel like the Sidonians. He hired through their king, these professionals and paid them whatever amount their king charged him. A talented hairdresser can be known through her skilful dressing of hair. She will pull a crowd of customers.
King David organized training for the children of Judah on how to use weapons of war. He testified of the training that God did for him that made him a skilful warrior. Employers of labour are looking for trained hands with viable skills.
Despite the love Pharaoh had for Joseph, he asked of his brothers’ occupation before he told Joseph to employ profitable ones among them to supervise the grazing of his cattle. Utilize that vocational training opportunities around you to be a technician. You can learn to sow clothes or become a celebrated drycleaner. Enhance your value today.
