Salvation Testimony Of Brother Joshua Okoji (Part 1)
Sunday 7th June
Text: Luke 15: 11-16
Key Verse: Psalms 25:22 “Redeem Israel, O God, out of all his troubles.”
I was living a sinful life of smoking, partying and immorality, although, we had joined HOREMOW since 2014. I got used to the cry of Sister Linda. My parents have been preaching to me, but I felt that I was still a youth. Satan showed me many things I could achieve not knowing that the end of them is death. I visited a swimming pool one day with some friends and almost died in the water. They warned me not to go to a part of the pool because it was very deep but due to stubbornness, I said I had already paid. When I entered that part, I got drowned and started shouting for help, but no one cared. I feared greatly and thought that I would be going straight to hell? I pleaded for mercy and God rescued me through the caretaker of the pool.
I was a chain smoker, and I fell sick frequently because of excessive smoking. My parents usually carried me from one hospital to another for treatment but whenever I recovered, it is to continue smoking. The devil deceived me that there is joy in getting high with cigarettes and Indian hemp, but nothing compares to the joy and peace that Jesus gives. I attended chapter meetings due to pressure from my parents, but I was living in sin. At a point, without smoking I would not be able to eat food.
My mother prayed continuously for my salvation, sometimes mentioning my name aloud while in prayers but I will shout at her not to call my name in her prayers. She remained calm and loving because after shouting at her, I would still go to her for money, and she would still give me. One fateful day, my mother called me by phone to come for the Bible study, because most times, I do not stay at home except when I wanted to collect something from them. I refused but later went. As Pastor Paul Rika was preaching, he said, “This may be your last chance. If you let Satan disconnect you from God, you will cry in hell forever.” I remembered my experience in that swimming pool and reasoned that if I go to hell there is no coming back.
