Beware Of The Temptation Of Money
Sunday 21st June
Text: 1 Corinthians 10:12-13
Key verse: 1 Thessalonians 2:10 Ye are witnesses, and God also, how holily and justly and unblameably we behaved ourselves among you that believe:
Be wise, money has limited power and a limited lifespan. Beware, money is not eternal. Beware, there is a time when you will not need it. Beware of money and the use of money. The most important duty of money in your life is food and clothing. (1 Timothy 6:8). In fact, the Bible did not include housing, because you can sleep in a hotel without building one. So, that is not the most important thing in your life. You must wear clothes and eat food. These are the two major things money is needed for. But the temptations of money are many. A poor man who is a child of God can still be tempted with money (Proverbs 30:8,9). Even you, may be tempted by the matters of money many times before you die, or before the rapture.
Exposure to another person’s money is enough temptation. A young man visited his friend’s house in love and peace. His friend left a bundle of money on the table and went to do something in the bedroom. Then, the devil came to him and said, “Do you know that this problem in your life and that other problem can be easily solved if you pick this money? Your friend will not know because he has not confirmed the amount of the money. Help yourself with some it!” He gently said, “No, I will not do that.” Initially, he thought it was a joke. But the devil persisted strongly, “You can take this money to help yourself!” Knowing that the devil meant business to make him do what would destroy him, he shouted, “No, I will not take it!” His friend heard him from inside the bedroom and asked, “Friend, what is happening there?” He replied, “Can you imagine the devil telling me to steal your money? I should come to your house and become a thief?” Although, it looked humorous and embarrassing, he saved himself from Satan’s temptation to sin and eternal death. But if you have fallen by the devil’s temptation, you have to confess to God and to the right person that you cheated, in order to regain your true righteousness.
Thought for today: Resist the devil, and he will flee from you.
Song for today: I will never let the devil win the battle
Bible reading for the day: Psalms 95-103
