GOD’S MIRACLES ARE TO SERVE HIS PURPOSE, NOT FOR OUR PRIDE

TOPIC: GOD’S MIRACLES ARE TO SERVE HIS PURPOSE, NOT FOR OUR PRIDE September Wednesday 23rd

TEXT: Joshua 10:12-13

KEY VERSE: Joshua 10:14 And there was no day like that before it or after it, that the LORD hearkened unto the voice of a man: for the LORD fought for Israel.

When God wanted to give a sign to Hezekiah to assure him that he would be healed, He asked, “Shall the shadow go forward ten degrees, or go back ten degrees?” God gave that option. Elijah challenged the gods of the prophets of Baal to a spiritual battle and said “Let them therefore give us two bullocks; and let them choose one bullock for themselves, and cut it in pieces, and lay it on wood, and put no fire under: and I will dress the other bullock, and lay it on wood, and put no fire under.”

Elijah was out to prove to the people who had abandoned the true God to follow the prophets of Baal that the God that answers by fire is the true God. He was doing this as led by the Spirit of God to save perishing souls and not for pride. We see how the prophets of Baal could not get fire from their gods to light the woods but when Elijah called on the living God, the fire of the LORD fell from heaven, and consumed the burnt sacrifice, and the wood, and the stones, and the dust, and licked up the water that was in the trench. It was then the hearts of the people turned back to God.  We can see that God’s miracles are to serve His purpose, not for our pride.

Again, consider Joshua who stopped the sun and the moon. It happened once by the impartation of the faith of the Holy Ghost in him. Nobody will say again, “God, I am going somewhere and it is getting late; please stay the sun for me.” Or, “We want to finish this crusade, please stay the sun from going down until we are through.” These things are not normal repetitive miracles. They are uncommon, one-off miracles.

In Jesus’ time, He turned water into wine. Did you hear any apostle turn water into wine? It was an unusual manifestation of the Holy Ghost that happened once in a generation according to the mind of God. Suppose you are planning a wedding for which you will need drinks, pray in advance. Ask God to supply and He knows how to do it. Don’t go and be filling seven water pots and say, “As Jesus did it, this water turn into wine now!” The sons of Sceva did that and demons handled them.

Thought for the day: God’s miracles are at His discretion, not by our command.

Song for the day: He is Lord, He is Lord, amen…..

Bible reading for the day: Song of Solomon 6-8; Galatians 1

Them That Sin, Rebuke Before All

God's blessing shall be following you continually for taking the time to study. Them That Sin, Rebuke Before All   Monday 24th March Text: 1 Timothy 5: 19-22 Key verse: Them that sin rebuke before all, that others also may fear. 1 Timothy 5:20 God wants you to avoid doing evil while saying you want to go to heaven. You may be a member of a worldly church and be saying, “It is my tribal church; if I leave them, they will be angry. I do not want them to be angry.” Is it God you want to make angry by your compromise? You will see the anger of God indeed. It is through the word that you perfect the people, and as a result, the Bible says, “Thou shalt not suffer sin upon your brother. Thou shall reprove him.” Your brother or sister has done a bad thing, and you do not bother. You leave them in their sins. They may do the same to other people. The Lord says, “Correct them.” Do not allow sin to be in them because sin will take them to hell. The Bible says, “Them that sin, rebuke befo...

Key verse: "To the law and to the testimony: if they speak not according to this word, it is because there is no light in them" Isaiah 8:20. God has given revelations to many in our days and He is still in the business of doing that. The choice of these messengers is His sovereign will. Some of these revelations are written in books for all to read and some are shared verbally. There are scriptural facts to be understood on these revelation messages. They follow the pattern of scriptural revelations in the Holy Bible. Some are given in plain, simple and direct language, while some are given in pictorial language and figures of speech. The recipient of the revelation may be an ignorant person whose understanding is unfruitful, hence, he may not be capable to interpret the revelation received. Except God gives the grace of interpretation to ...
