TOPIC: THE INFLUENCE OF GOOD PARENTING IN MOULDING GODLY CHARACTER
Text: 2 Timothy 1:3-5
Key verse: Proverbs 22:6 Train up a child in the way he should go: and when he is old, he will not depart from it.
From today’s reading text, we could see the genetic trait of righteousness running through the family of Timothy. Lois, his grandmother was a believer. Louis gave birth to Eunice and Eunice also became a believer. Eunice gave birth to Timothy and gave much attention to training him in the way of the Lord and he too became a strong believer. My advice to parents is that in bringing up your children, give them sufficient attention to train them in the scriptures. Eunice trained Timothy and Paul testified that the faith of Timothy was an unfeigned faith. It was an unpretentious faith. He was not just claiming Christianity; he was truly one.
Timothy was genuinely born again, a true and sound believer whose heart had been purified and sanctified by God. Timothy was a true Christian. Paul who had lived with Timothy for many years saw that this boy was not an offence. This boy had no fault. This young man was a Christian indeed. You must not be a hypocrite. Be a serious person. Take this matter serious and do not joke with it. Make the Bible your daily companion and study it very well. Make it a regular habit to read through the whole Bible from the books of Genesis to Revelation. Commit yourself to it and be acquainted with the scriptures as a disciple. Your life will change completely. For you will know the truth and the truth shall make you free.
Take it as Timothy took it with all sincerity. He had nothing to do with occultism, or fornication, or drugs, or fighting, or lying, or cheating or any kind of evil. Take this Christianity sincerely without pretence. That was what Timothy was – an evidence to good parental training. In fact, the Bible says he was a disciple; which means apart from the assistance received from his parents, Timothy knew Jesus personally and was committed to Him. He embarked on personal spiritual development through reading of the scriptures. Timothy’s life is an evidence of original Christianity and worthy of emulation by heaven-seekers.
Thought for the day: Be a sound believer whose heart is purified and sanctified by God
Song for the day: Following Jesus every day by day
Bible reading for the day:
2 Samuel 1-3; Luke 18:1-17
