TOPIC: DO NOT DELAY IN DOING YOUR RESTITUTION
TEXT: Luke 19:5-10
KEY VERSE: Proverbs 28:13 He that covereth his sins shall not prosper: but whoso confesseth and forsaketh them shall have mercy.
There are many things Satan uses against believers to prevent them from doing restitution. Often, the challenge of restitution is how to own up what you have previously denied or how to bring to the open a secret you think you have successfully covered for a long time. Another challenge is how to face the shame of exposing your terrible sin. Doing your restitution requires the followings:
1. Restitution requires courage and determination. The fear of shame and likely repercussions can discourage you. How does a wife tell the husband that two of the children are not his? How does a husband tell the barren wife he has secret wife and children outside? But with God, all things are possible. I pray that the Lord will give you the courage to do your restitution.
2. Restitution requires knowledge of doctrinal truth. If you are ignorant of the doctrine of restitution you will not consider it necessary. Ask God to open your eyes to the truth of restitution and that restitution will not constitute a blockage on your way to heaven.
3. Restitution requires personal conviction. You need the personal conviction of the Holy Spirit to do your restitution. This was the case with Zacchaeus. Ask God to speak to you and bring to your remembrance issues requiring restitution in your life. Pray that you will not be stubborn to the leading of the Holy Spirit.
4. Restitution requires divine wisdom and guidance. Wrong handling could make it to backfire. Ask for divine wisdom on how to go about your restitution. Pray that God will soften the ground for you and make you to see the favour of man.
5. Restitution requires humility. It takes a humble heart to say, "I am sorry." How many husbands can be humble enough to confess their secret sins to their wives? Ask for the spirit of humility to do your restitution. Say, "Lord take away pride and self-justification from my life."
6. Restitution requires proper counselling to achieve the best results. It also requires taking it to God in prayers before you embark on it. Pray that God will lead you to godly counsellor and that Satan will not double cross you in this matter. Pray not to fall into the hands of misleading leaders.
Thought for the day: Ask for grace to do your restitution without delay.
Song for the day: The Lord says I should not fear; He says I should not worry …
Bible reading for the day:
1 Samuel 25-26; Luke 16:19-31
