TOPIC: THE WAY UP IS DOWN October Tuesday 15th
TEXT: Philippians 2: 5-11
KEY VERSE: James 4:6 But he giveth more grace. Wherefore he saith, God resisteth the proud, but giveth grace unto the humble.
When I was growing up, I had a strong desire to serve God and to do much for Him, but then this desire was getting to my head until I came across a book titled, “The Final Quest’. That book humbled me. Why are you struggling for greatness? Do you know that many great men of God who served before us and made it to heaven are in the lower part of heaven? They barely managed to enter into heaven! Why? They did great works for God on earth, but all was done in the flesh. So what has it profited them? It was at this point I realized the futility of carnal struggles, and I let go of the fleshly striving. If it is the Lord's will for me to perform a task or get to a particular position, He will do it. I will not pray more than my strength can carry me. I choose to relax in His hands, in my weakness, He will still show me mercies. That which He desires me to do, He will take me there and enable me to do it, and all I need to concern myself with is how to attain His holiness and righteousness. I choose to be peaceful for God has called me to peace. This is not a cloak or excuse not to be diligent in studying His Word, praying, fasting. You should do all these diligently, according to the measure of grace bestowed on you by the Lord.
Today, we have people who operate small ministries in villages, remote areas, and even in corners of their towns. They do this not for self-glory, but in the sincerity of heart because necessity is laid upon them. The truth they know and the grace of God upon their lives make them debtors to their environment(s). You will find a man in a village somewhere, who starts a church and remains there. All his attention and passion is on the people of that remote village. He says, these people are in darkness, and I have given myself to making these people know the truth. When asked why such a laborer in the Lord’s vineyard, will not go to other places, he says, ‘this is where my calling is, and I find fulfilment doing the work of God here.' There are many people with village ministries, they have no interest in coming to the cities or big towns, and they are not seeking to be known. You may not recognize these people or the works they do for the Lord. They are not in the business of seeking self-glory or fame. They do all to the glory of God, and they are sincerely satisfied serving God this way. The Lord will surely reward them in due time
Thought for the day: Do not go beyond grace!
Song for the day: The joy of the Lord is my strength
Bible reading for the day:
