SALVATION IS ESSENTIAL BEFORE SEEKING A SPOUSE
WEDNESDAY JANUARY 3
TEXT: MATTHEW 7: 6-11
Key Verse: “If ye then, being evil, know how to give good gifts unto your children, how much more shall your Father which is in heaven give good things to them that ask him?” Matthew 7: 11
You must first be a believer to qualify to receive a good thing from the Lord. You must be a child of God before you receive another child of God for a wife or for a husband. From our text, Jesus warns against giving holy things to dogs. Beware of dogs! Who are dogs? Those who don’t know the Lord; the sinners; they are dogs; those who bark at God; those who fight the ways of God; those not interested in God. They are dogs. Don’t give a holy thing to dogs. That’s what the Lord is saying. So if you are not a Christian, you are not born again. How can the God who has spoken this be the One to take a child of God, holy thing and give you? Child of God, one that has promised his Father, promised her Father, I will serve you, just as we sing, Oh Jesus I have promised to serve you to the end. Can you then take such a person, if you were God, to go and give to someone who will remove him from the service of God? If you were God will you do that? NO! So then, you are not born again, why is marriage your first issue of contention with God? You are not a child of God, why is it marriage that you put before God. God, if You want me to really serve You, if You want me to be born again, if You want me to stop the sin that I am committing now, then give me a husband. Do you know whom you are even talking to? So the scripture is saying that if you are a son you have right to ask your Father.
Then again it says, neither cast your pearls before swine, pigs. Don’t throw pearls, costly, shiny materials in the front of pigs lest they trample them under their feet and turn again and rend you. You who gave those things, apart from the fact that pigs are going to make those things dirty, pigs will use their nose to push them into the mud and scatter everything there and then turn back to you and fight you. Can God give a husband to a woman that will turn back and fight God? That which a woman does against her husband to stop him from being righteous and holy is a fight against God. Can God give a wife to a man that will turn again to fight Him? That which a man does to persecute his wife because the wife has decided not to use jewels, not to wear trousers again, the wife has decided to be pure and perfect for heaven, but the man is fighting it. That is a pig fighting God. Can God then do that? Be warned because this relationship that you say you have with God shall not continue if you don’t take heed.
