TOPIC: REASONS FOR RESTITUTION (PART 2)

TEXT: JUDGES 17:1-4
1. And there was a man of mount Ephraim, whose name was Micah.
2. And he said unto his mother, The eleven hundred shekels of silver that were taken from thee, about which thou cursedst, and spakest of also in mine ears, behold, the silver is with me; I took it. And his mother said, Blessed be thou of the LORD, my son.
3. And when he had restored the eleven hundred shekels of silver to his mother, his mother said, I had wholly dedicated the silver unto the LORD from my hand for my son, to make a graven image and a molten image: now therefore I will restore it unto thee.
4. Yet he restored the money unto his mother; and his mother took two hundred shekels of silver, and gave them to the founder, who made thereof a graven image and a molten image: and they were in the house of Micah. 

KEY VERSE: JOB 34:32 That which I see not teach thou me: If I have done iniquity, I will do no more.

Restitution is very important because it can give you the peace that you never imagine. What worries people in the world will never worry you again. You will not have seared conscience. Restitution is necessary for every soul that has become born again. 

Having therefore these promises, dearly beloved, let us cleanse ourselves from all filthiness of the flesh and spirit, perfecting holiness in the fear of God. You have been taught about sanctification, there are some restitutions that when they are not done will hinder sanctification in you, because they are part of the filthiness of life to be cleared away for your peace and rest in Christ. 

For example, if someone has something against you and you refuse to settle with him, how can you attend to holiness? Restitution prevents you from committing further sin. It makes you to be very careful not to commit another sin. When you remember the burden of restitution, you will become very careful to avoid anything that will warrant you to make restitution, because 

it is costly to restitute. It is a lesson to keep you in righteousness and holiness. For instance, if as a sinner guilty of adultery, you confess to your spouse that this is the sin you committed, will you continue to commit the same sin when you know you will have to confess to your spouse again? 

This burden of having to confess to your spouse and or Christian leader to clear your guilty and conscience, will prevent you from committing further sin. The shame of having to go to your spouse and or Christian leader to confess again and again is enough to keep you from involving with the shameful act of adultery or fornication. 

Many people testify that when the Lord opened their eyes to necessity of doing restitution, they confessed their evil deeds to their wives and pleaded for forgiveness. It is better to be ashamed before men than to face eternal fire. Many people refuse to do restitution because of pride.

Thought for the day. Restitution puts the devil to shame.
