TOPIC: DISCOVERING YOUR UNKNOWN TALENTS (PART 1)

TEXT: DEUTERONOMY 29:29 “The secret things belong unto the LORD our God: but those things which are revealed belong unto us and to our children for ever, that we may do all the words of this law.”

KEY VERSE: PROVERBS 25:2 It is the glory of God to conceal a thing: but the honour of kings is to search out a matter.

Talents are natural gifts. He places talents within us as naturally as He gives us the colour of our skin or hair. They are like books in your bookshelves that have never been read or seeds stored in packages that await planting. 

Talents are different from spiritual gifts. Spiritual gifts, as listed in Scripture, are for believers. They always involve a measure of faith to be manifested. On the other hand, the natural gifts we call talents, have been distributed to all people, both believers and unbelievers.  

Talents are not to remain dormant or undiscovered. They are placed in us for a purpose. Jesus said, let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good works, and glorify your Father which is in heaven (Matthew 5:16).  

Our talents were given to be discovered, perfected and used; not to be hidden under a basket. There is a sense of fulfilment you get if you discover your talents and are using them to the glory of God.  

Many people are depressed and discouraged because they do not know the joy of using their talents as God meant them to be used. A writer said men can starve from a lack of self-fulfilment as much as they can from a lack of bread. Check these categories of talents and identify where you belong.

Artistic Talents. There are people God has put in them creative ability. They can create things out of nothing. They are good at creative work like music, paintings, software, internal decoration, drawings, etc. Do you see yourself doing artistic work without stress or struggle? It is possible God has wired you with this ability to be a blessing to God’s kingdom, yourself and your society. Train up and use it.

Leadership Talents. This is a natural ability to lead others. This may manifest from childhood while you are growing up. Other children willingly followed you as they acknowledge you as their leader. Grace to lead others is inherent in you.

Thought For The Day: Your talents are not to remain dormant or undiscovered.
