TOPIC: REASONS FOR RESTITUTION (PART 1)

TEXT: LEVITICUS.6:1-5
1. And the LORD spake unto Moses, saying,
2. If a soul sin, and commit a trespass against the LORD, and lie unto his neighbour in that which was delivered him to keep, or in fellowship, or in a thing taken away by violence, or hath deceived his neighbour;
3. Or have found that which was lost, and lieth concerning it, and sweareth falsely; in any of all these that a man doeth, sinning therein:
4. Then it shall be, because he hath sinned, and is guilty, that he shall restore that which he took violently away, or the thing which he hath deceitfully gotten, or that which was delivered him to keep, or the lost thing which he found, 
5. Or all that about which he hath sworn falsely; he shall even restore it in the principal, and shall add the fifth part more thereto, and give it unto him to whom it appertaineth, in the day of his trespass offering. 

KEY VERSE: HEBREWS 12:14 Follow peace with all men and holiness, without which no man shall see the Lord: 

Restitution is required to remove guilt and condemnation. If you have done something wrong, you will feel guilty. This guilt will haunt and harass your conscience. If you do not get rid of it by doing restitution, you will continue to feel condemned. You will be guilt-ridden in everything you do and will begin to think whether people are aware of what you did. 

Restitution is required to remove guilt and condemnation. This is warning against refusing God's conviction. You have done a bad thing in the past, which each time you remember, it takes your peace away. For instance, when you remember the money you stole, or the lie you told which you have not confessed, or that you are living a deceitful life. 

It may be that your name is Solomon but people know you as Emmanuel elsewhere, it will keep disturbing your conscience and will not let you have peace except you confess it out and rectify the error. Such change of name could be due to some frauds in your past. Restitution is necessary for your personal peace and for your peace with God. 

Unless you open up and confess it, peace will not return to you. But when you do it you will enjoy peace. Nothing is as worrisome as not having peace. Whatever is being said, if you are guilt-ridden, your mind will be in that particular spot. For that reason, you need to do restitution so you can attain to personal peace and peace with God. 

Another reason for restitution is that it adorns the gospel of Christ. It adds beauty to the gospel. It is the practical way to show that you are born again, when you go back to a neighbour to apologize over what happened between you and him. 

It is the practical way of showing people that confession is real. Restitution is a good example to believers. When you do restitution, others will learn from it. They will also do it and that will go into your account before God, because you open the way by being an example to them.

Thought for the day. Restitution and holiness are a must for heaven.
