The Ministry Of A Faithful Widow
Monday 13th April
Text: Luke 2:36,38
Key Verse: Colossians 4:17 “And say to Archippus, take heed to the ministry which thou hast received in the Lord, that thou fulfil it.”
Christian ministry is a service God uses a person to render to Himself and to men. Such service glorifies God and edifies men. When it is rendered by the will of God, the individual has received grace for such ministry. In scripture, widows enjoyed the grace for ministry by the mercy of God. Anna had a ministry of fasting and prayers; fasting is abstinence from food for a period of time in order to seek God’s face and make Him solve problems. The widow must give herself regularly to this in order to:
i. Keep herself pure and holy inwardly and outwardly by the help of God.
ii. Receive regular supply from God to meet her daily needs
iii. Fight and win over enemies in the battles of life.
iv. Receive God’s defence in the battles set against her as a widow
v. Receive comfort from God in every area of life.
vi. Receive guidance from God for her decisions
vii. Minister and edify others in the name of the Lord
Anna was a prophetess, God used her to give messages to men by dreams, visions, trances, and inspiration regularly. She was an intercessor, committed to praying for the will of God to be done in the world. A widow can engage in intercessory prayer to bless the church. She was regular in the temple, rendering whatever service given to her by the leaders. Her lifestyle and commitment kept her holy. She held the child Jesus in the temple and spoke of Him to all that looked for redemption in Israel. There is no limit to what God can use a faithful widow to do for Himself and for humanity.
