God's blessings will continually accompany you for dedicating time to your studies
Testimony Of God’s Call By Pastor Paul Rika (Part 1)
Friday 1st May
Text: Jeremiah 1:4-8
Key Verse: Psalms 25:9 “The meek will He guide in judgement, and the meek will He teach His way.”
When I got born again, the zeal was heavy upon my life. I had finished my primary school at that time. I told God, “Lord, if You help me to be able to read and write, that is, if You help me pass through education, I am going to preach Your word.” In 1984, I was praying at night in an open field, a football field. I was in the College of Preliminary Studies at that time. As I was praying, I saw myself entering into a Divine presence, and I went into a covenant and said, “Lord, I am going to preach Your word all over the world after my National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) assignment.”
I was asked a question, “In which way? Part-time or full-time?” (Part-time means that you will be doing secular work while preaching. That is how many do it, and it is still ministerial work, whereas full-time means preaching without doing secular work.) I looked into my heart to assess the tension and desire there, and I answered, “Lord, I will preach Your word as a full-time minister after my NYSC.” When I finished that sentence, it was as if I came to my senses. “Ah! How will I be saying that? Am I not going to work to help my family, my parents and siblings? No, I didn’t talk correctly. I have to cancel what I have said.”
I began to ask some brethren, “If you made a promise to God and later discovered that it was not correct, if you cancel it, is it anything?” Whatever answer anybody gave me, it never removed the thought from my heart. Having known I would be preaching God’s word full-time, I spent time in personal development. I got books. My books were like a big bookshop. If I saw a book, I would say, “This book will help me in the ministry”, and I would buy it. I bought many books; some of the books are still there up till now.
