Believers’ Victory Over Temptations, Persecutions And Sufferings
Tuesday 28th April
Text: Matthew 5: 9-12
Key Verse: Many are the afflictions of the righteous: but the Lord delivereth him out of them all Psalms 34: 19.
Temptation is that which entices one to act contrary to the will of God. The mission of temptation is to make the believer commit sin and suffer the penalty of sin in hell. The devil is the tempter, and his target is the believer. It is not a sin to be tempted, but it is however, a sin to yield to temptation. Jesus instructed believers to watch and pray to avoid being victims of temptation (Mathew 26:41). King Solomon advised, “My son, if sinners entice thee, consent thou not (Proverbs 1:10).”
The Philistines promised to reward Delilah handsomely if she could entice Sampson to disclose the source of his strength. Sampson could not withstand the temptation and became a victim of his weakness. He had the opportunity to resist the devil that used Delilah against him but did not utilise it. God is able to keep you from the hour of temptation if you can live in obedience to His word. He knows how to deliver the godly out of temptation (2 Peter 2:9).
It is normal for Christ’s followers to suffer persecution and to face various challenges in life for righteousness’ sake. These confrontations should be handled with faith, prayers and thanksgiving to God who is our Comforter, Sustainer, Provider, Wisdom and Victory. Believers should face challenges of life with patience (2 Thess 1:4). The sufferings of Christ which you experience today are not worthy to be compared with the glory of God which shall be lavished on you if you can endure to the end (Romans 8:18). As many as are partakers of the afflictions of the gospel of Christ right now, shall be partakers of His consolation in due time (2 Cor. 1:7). Jesus, the Author and Finisher of our faith took the lead in the afflictions of the gospel. The glory that followed has swallowed up the pains of the suffering. Thanks be to God who gives us the victory through our Lord Jesus Christ. Amen.
