TOPIC: HAND IT OVER TO GOD IN PRAYER
TEXT: 2 Kings 19: 10-14, 35-37
KEY VERSE: 2 Kings 19:20 Then Isaiah the son of Amoz sent to Hezekiah, saying, Thus saith the LORD God of Israel, That which thou hast prayed to me against Sennacherib king of Assyria I have heard.
In this life you cannot wish trouble away. John 16:33 I have said all these things to you so that in me you may have peace. In the world you have trouble: but take heart! I have overcome the world. This is particularly true of believers because with many tribulations we shall enter the kingdom of God. But when trouble or tribulation comes, are we to fold our hands and do nothing? Are we to say, “Jesus has told us we will have trouble, so trouble I welcome you?” While tribulation or trouble is inescapable for a believer, it should not be a permanent feature of his or her life. To every problem that confronts you, God has provided a solution if only you can seek for His intervention through prayer. That is why God says in Psalm 50:15, “Call upon me in the day of trouble: I will deliver thee, and thou shalt glorify me.” This assurance is further given in Psalm 91:15 where God is saying, “He shall call upon me, and I will answer him: I will be with him in trouble; I will deliver him, and honour him.” The psalmist understood the mind of God and responded saying, “In the day of my trouble I will call upon thee: for thou wilt answer me.” Psalm 86:7.
You too must understand the mind of God and cry unto Him in times of trouble. There is no trouble that comes your way that is too big for God to handle. Don’t run to anointing oil. Don’t run to miracle handkerchief or comb or apron. That would be practicing idolatry. Nowhere has God commanded his children to run to objects of miracle for deliverance on the day of trouble. God has given only one Name by which we must be saved and be delivered and that name is Jesus. Proverbs 18:10, “The name of the LORD is a strong tower: the righteous runneth into it, and is safe.” King Hezekiah understood this eternal truth about God. In our reading text, when king Sennacherib wrote to him threatening to overrun Judah, boasting about his superpower and past exploits against nations, king Hezekiah ran to God in prayer. Bible says, “Hezekiah went up into the house of the LORD, and spread it before the LORD … and prayed.” Take your matter to God in prayer and experience great deliverance.
Thought for the day: Stop troubling yourself; take your matter to God in prayer.
Song for the day: I have a Father who will never, never fail me
