TOPIC: ROLE OF THE HOLY GHOST IN THE LIFE OF A BELIEVER
TEXT: John 14:16-17
KEY VERSE: Act 10:38 How God anointed Jesus of Nazareth with the Holy Ghost and with power: who went about doing good, and healing all that were oppressed of the devil; for God was with him.
We are in the dispensation of the Holy Spirit but many believers are yet to derive full benefit of the presence of the Holy Spirit in the Church. The Holy Spirit was sent by Jesus as helper and guide to the church in this troubled era. Some of the roles of the Holy Spirit in the church are:
a. To guide believers into all truth (John 16:13). He is called the Spirit of truth who reveals the truth about God, His word, His salvation, His judgment and every truth of righteousness that will prepare the believer for heaven.
b. To teach all things (John. 14:26). He is our teacher. He illuminates and expounds the word of God for our perfect understanding and spiritual maturity.
c. To comfort (John 16:7). To comfort us in time of needs, tribulation and trials while God works out a solution.
d. Brings all things to our remembrance (John 14:26). “All things” means not only spiritual matters but also secular issues.
e. To testify of Jesus (John 15:26). The Spirit works within us to do what is necessary to deepen the awareness of the presence of Jesus in our lives, and love him more.
f. To convict us of sin, righteousness and judgment (John 16:8-11). He is the voice of our conscience that rebukes us whenever we do wrong.
g. He guides us into all truths (John 16:13; Rom 8:14): He leads us by inner witness.
h. He shows us things to come (John 16:13-15). He is the one that gives the revelations of Jesus.
i. He is the Christian seal. Mark of God’s ownership (Eph. 1:13 – 14).
j. He is our sanctifier (Rom. 15:16; 1 Peter 1:2). An experience subsequent to salvation.
k. He intercedes for us (Romans 8: 16 – 17)
l. He is the Giver of spiritual gifts (1 Corinthians 12:7–11). He distributes spiritual gifts to believers to profit the church.
m. He produces His fruit to enable us develop Christ-like characters (Gal. 5:22 – 23).
Thought for the day: God cannot be served in human strength. Let the Holy Spirit lead and direct.
Song for the day: Spirit do it again … Do it again in my life
Bible reading for the day:
Judges 12-14; Luke 9:37-62
