TOPIC: CLARIFICATIONS ON USE OF THREAD AND CUTTING OF HAIR
OCTOBER Tuesday 30th
TEXT: 1 Peter 3: 1-6
KEY VERSE: Whose adorning let it not be that outward adorning of plaiting the hair, and of wearing of gold, or of putting on of apparel; 1 Peter 3: 3
QUESTION: When preaching to people and sharing HOREMOW materials, some of them will tell you that, if weavon is a sin then the thread that you are using to plait your hair is also a sin. They will ask us, do you know where that thread you are using came from? So I just want you to say something about it. Then the other question is about cutting of hair. Is it when you cut all your hair that the glory is gone or when you just cut it low cut? I want to know if cutting our hair is a sin.
ANSWER: There is nothing wrong with plaiting your hair modestly with thread as long as you are not worldly in your design. Thread has been in use for many years before hair attachment came out. Once you are doing those things neatly not in the fashion of this present world there is nothing wrong with that. Avoid plaiting with shiny rubber or diverse coloured threads, but be content with the simple black threads our mothers have always used. When attachment came for fashion, we knew it has come. The black thread has been in use for long.
About the cutting of the hair, we say it is not a feminine practice to habitually barb the hair. In our African community, it is not common for a woman to regularly cut her hair; that is a masculine practice; but in case something is wrong with you; there can be injury in your hair or maybe you permed or jerry curled it before and you want to remove it to grow the natural hair afresh; you may cut your hair, for whatever leads you to cut it, but you should cover it, so you can still appear feminine in the society, although you cut your hair for a reasonable purpose. This is necessary so that your glory as a woman in the society can still be maintained. Cover it up. It is not scriptural for a woman to be cutting or barbing her hair as a regular habit, whether low cut or complete shaving.
Thought for the day: Avoid plaiting with shiny rubber or diverse colored threads
Song for the day: Praise the Lord, my spirit, soul and body
Bible reading for the day:
Jeremiah 27-28; 2 Timothy 4
