TEXT: John 17: 14-20
KEY VERSE: Sanctify them through thy truth: thy word is truth. John 17: 17
The Gospel of Sanctification deals with inner cleansing, inner purity, the purity of heart. The believer has become part of the church. The Bible says, Christ loved the church and gave Himself for it. For God so loved the world that He gave Jesus for it on the cross. Christ now loved the church and gave Himself for it. The death on the cross has dual purpose:
(1). Bring the sinner to salvation in Christ;
(2). Bring the believer to sanctification and purity of the heart.
So that is the message the believers need to hear: that your heart can be purified. It is just like when your cloth is dirty, you carry it to water and wash it, when you wash it in water you do another thing to it. What do you do? You rinse it. You carry it to another water to rinse it, at the first washing, dirt came out but there are still some lines, some remnants that the next water can cleanse out. At salvation much is done in your life, you are saved from sins but then, there are remnants which you still need sanctification to arrive at perfect cleansing.
Jesus Christ prayed for the disciples asking for a second definite experience called sanctification. He said, they are not of the world again, they have been saved from their sins, they are already consecrated to God because the word, sanctify means two things. (1). Consecrate or dedicate and (2). Purify. They are already consecrated to you; they are not of the world anymore; they are now for you; they are separated from the world; but now, sanctify them. Do cleansing in their hearts, purify them. For their sakes I consecrated myself, the second meaning of sanctification. For their sake I sanctified, consecrated myself, and dedicated myself that they also may be sanctified, cleansed, and purged through the truth. Sanctification is by the word, you are born again by the word and you are sanctified by the word. So sanctification is required in your life. How does it come? The Bible tells us as the sinner gets born again by faith so the believers should also be sanctified by faith.
Thought for the day: Sanctify them through thy truth: thy word is truth.
Song for the day: Jesus only is our message
