Judas Iscariot: The Unfaithful Apostle
Wednesday 1st April
Text: Matthew 26: 47-50
Key Verse: Matthew 26: 54 "But how then shall the scripture be fulfilled, that thus it must be?"
Judas Iscariot was one of the apostles of Jesus Christ and was the one that kept the purse. This shows the kind of trust conferred him by the Lord. It was unfortunate that he was the one that betrayed the Master for a sum of money. His love for money also showed when Mary anointed the Lord with a costly ointment, he complained that such oil could have been sold and given to the poor. The Bible says that he only said so for his selfish purpose and not for the love he has for the poor. The second time the Lord was anointed was at Bethany when a woman came with alabaster box of very precious ointment. This time it was the disciples that saw it as a waste and felt it could have been sold and given to the poor. It is possible that Judas Iscariot's previous comment on Mary must have influenced their current statement. Today, some ministers are more concerned with their belly than the eternal reward that will accrue to them if they remain faithful to God.
It is shameful that some pastors convert vehicles and houses given to their churches to their personal properties. Churches can no longer resolve leadership problems among themselves but prefer to go to court in order to settle matters. God does not matter to them. Today, it is what the pastor says that is carried out and not what God says. We have many Judas Iscariots among us who have betrayed Jesus Christ many times and have deviated from the way. Fake miracles and stage-managed testimonies are given to deceive people. They deceive many through occultism to win more members. They preach prosperity and scarcely preach repentance from sin, and the danger of hellfire. They preach eternal security; once born again forever born again. The doctrine of restitution is not part of their message, and members are not aware. Provocative dresses are no more sin before them. Repent and seek God for mercy.
