TOPIC: MAKE GOD YOUR FIRST LOVE, NOT YOUR SPOUSE

TEXT: Luke 14:26-27

Key verse: Matthew 22:37-38 Jesus said unto him, Thou shalt love the Lord thy God with all thy heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy mind. This is the first and great commandment
 
Scripturally, husband and wife are one flesh. Bible says in Matthew 19:5, “And said, For this cause shall a man leave father and mother, and shall cleave to his wife: and they twain shall be one flesh?” But they are not one soul or spirit. 

Bible says in Ezekiel 18:4, “Behold, all souls are mine; as the soul of the father, so also the soul of the son is mine: the soul that sinneth, it shall die.” 

This means the race of heaven is individual. The eternal destiny of the wife is not necessarily the husband and vice versa. Though joined together in marriage, each person of the union has his and her race of salvation to run. The righteousness of the husband cannot save the wife; neither can the righteousness of the wife save the husband. There is no marriage in heaven. 

Ezekiel 18:20 The soul that sinneth, it shall die. The son shall not bear the iniquity of the father, neither shall the father bear the iniquity of the son: the righteousness of the righteous shall be upon him, and the wickedness of the wicked shall be upon him. 

This being the case, wisdom demands that you live your life in such a way that your husband or wife does not interfere with your relationship with God. Give your body to your spouse but not your soul. Your soul belongs solely to God and Him only shall you give account on the last day. 

Wife, submit to your husband's instruction as long as it does not run against the commandment of God. God is higher than your husband. Husband, love your wife and do all within your means and power to satisfy her as long as you do it without violating the commandment of God. 

Do not compromise on God's word to please your wife or husband. If your husband insists you must put on jewellery or trousers or makeup to remain in his house, don't succumb. He is not greater than God who forbids it. Take his matter to God in prayer. It is better to lose your husband than to lose Jesus. Remember that Jesus is the Bishop of your soul.  
Thought for the day: Don’t transfer God's love to any man or woman. It is a sin.
