Topic: YOU CANNOT WISH AWAY RESTITUTION December Friday 18th
Text: Matthew 5:22-25
Key verse: Acts 24:16 And herein do I exercise myself, to have always a conscience void of offence toward God, and toward men.
Restitution involves righting the wrongs done in times of ignorance and disobedience. This may be in marriage, in documents, in relationships with others and so on. Although the Bible says “If any man is in Christ, he is a new creature, old things are passed away, all things have become new,” the truth is that your neighbours don’t pass away neither does the place you were working pass away. Suppose you did something evil to your neighbour and as a result, you have not been on talking terms with him, now that you are born again and you are not in that lifestyle anymore, you need to go to your neighbour to seek reconciliation. You need to apologize for your wrongdoing and ask for forgiveness. You need to pay back debts you owe and settle with people you borrowed money from in the past. You need to go back and settle that debt because that money did not pass away. There is a need to return stolen items back to their rightful owners because God requires that which is past. You may have become born again but before you were converted you were not properly married in line with scripture. Your wrong marriage does not pass away either. Maybe you were once married and later got married to another person; now that you have become born again, you need to withdraw from the second marriage and go back to the first person you got married to.
Restitution is required in cases of examination malpractices and falsification of documents. Go and confess it even though it may seem foolish to the unconverted to do so. What if you are deported? It is far better to be deported to your country on earth than to depart to hellfire forever. “Ah, it’s dangerous. They will kill me.” It is better they kill you than that you fall into the hands of God. When God kills, it is forever! Fear not but go by faith. The commandment to do restitution contains all the power of grace, for grace and truth comes through Jesus Christ. Therefore, pray fervently for grace to do your restitution and receive the power of mercy, the power of truth, the power to receive the favour of men when you go to do your restitution. That is how many people got their lives settled and they are now living in peace. However, seek counselling and guidance from mature leaders to handle difficult and complicated cases of restitution that might implicate others.
Thought for the day: If you ask, God will give you the grace to do your restitution.
Song for the day: The grace of God is sufficient unto me.....
Bible reading for the day: Jonah; Revelation 9
