TOPIC: THE PORTRAIT OF A HOLY CHRISTIAN YOUTH February Tuesday 11th
TEXT: 1 Peter 1:14-16
KEY VERSE: 2Timothy 2:22 Flee also youthful lusts: but follow righteousness, faith, charity, peace, with them that call on the Lord out of a pure heart.
Holiness of life is a call to every believer, whether young or old. 1Thessalonians 4:7 For God hath not called us unto uncleanness, but unto holiness. That is the example Jesus Christ laid down by His lifestyle for every true believer to emulate and follow. From Bible times till today, many (young and old) have lived a life of holiness in the face of temptations and travails in the world and gone to heaven. So, it is nothing strange or impossible as many think, even as a youth. The youthful Christian brother and sister can avoid peer pressures and live a life that pleases God in this perverse world. But to do this successfully, essential knowledge of the holy life is required, which includes the followings:
i. Holiness Is the Nature of God. He is a triple holy God. Holy, holy, holy, Lord God Almighty, which was, and is, and is to come. (Revelation 4:8). Holiness is His nature. Psalm 99:9 Exalt the LORD our God, and worship at His holy hill; for the LORD our God is holy. His holiness makes Him to live from eternity to eternity. If He is not holy, then He is not God.
ii. It Is the Command of God. For a true Christian, living a holy life is not a choice but an uncompromising necessity, for without holiness no man shall see the Lord. Holiness is the proof of your true identity as a child of God. God specifically commands in 1 Peter 1:16, “Because it is written, Be ye holy; for I am holy.”
iii. It Is the Provision of God in Christ. Christianity is a calling into a life of holiness, not a life of sinfulness. Ephesians 1:4 According as he hath chosen us in him before the foundation of the world, that we should be holy and without blame before him in love.
iv. It Is the Peak of the Gospel Message Contained in Scripture. Without holiness, no man shall see the Lord (Hebrews 12:14).
v. It Is Practicable. Holiness is not something achievable only by God or angels in heaven. Every believer that ever went to heaven lived a holy life and bible testifies to this.
vi. It Was Demonstrated by Jesus and the Saints in Scripture. Jesus as man, lived without sin (1John 3:5). Bible attests to the holy lives of Noah, Abraham, Job, Lot, Anna, Joseph etc. Paul wrote of the apostles in 1Thessalonians 2:10, “Ye are witnesses, and God also, how holily and justly and unblameably we behaved ourselves among you that believe.”
vii. It Is Practiced by Contemporary Faithful Believers. Even in our days, there are still faithful believers living a holy and blameless Christian life, including the youth.
Ecclesiastes 12:1 Remember now thy Creator in the days of thy youth, while the evil days come not, nor the years draw nigh, when thou shalt say, I have no pleasure in them.
Thought for the day: It is possible to live a holy and blameless life as a Christian.
Song for the day: I rely, I rely on Thy word, oh Lord…….
Bible reading for the day:
Leviticus 13; Matthew 26:20-54
