TOPIC: YOU HAVE NO EXCUSE!
TEXT: John 14:21-24
KEY VERSE: Joh 14:15 If ye love me, keep my commandments.
God will prove your faith in obedience. Did you profess Jesus as your Lord and Saviour? Did you say you love Him with all your heart? You will have to prove your love for God in a practical way. Christianity is not just about what you profess, but what you do. 1 John 3:18 My little children, let us not love in word, neither in tongue; but in deed and in truth. When God asked Abraham to sacrifice his son Isaac (Genesis 22-1-13), he had enough reasons not to do so, but because of His genuine love and faith in God, he obeyed without hesitation.
1. AN ONLY SON. God emphasized to him, “It is your only son.” This is the only son he bore after 25 years of marriage, and in old age. It was a miracle birth because Sarah, his wife, was already past child-bearing age. To sacrifice Isaac meant he might never have an heir through his legal marriage. It also meant the promise of God to bless his future generations would never come to pass.
2. THE SON HE LOVED. Again, God reminded him of the great love he had for his son. It was a type of God’s sacrifice of his begotten Son that would take place centuries later. Isaac was practically all Abraham had left to live for in this world, yet God requested for his life.
3. THREE DAYS JOURNEY. God must have given enough time for Abraham to change his mind for the journey took three days into the wilderness. An unwilling Abraham could have changed his mind several times over within the 4,300 minutes he had to meditate over it.
In all these, Abraham did not waver in faith. He remained obedient and valued his relationship with God above everything else in the world. He did not even bother to discuss the matter with his wife. He probably thought if he did, Sarah might have objected. He loved God above his wife, above his son and above every other thing in the world. Stop giving excuses for your personal failure. Obedience is a personal responsibility. No excuse is good enough for your sinful indulgences or to justify your violation of God’s instruction. Own up your error and stop passing the buck. Repent and be saved.
Thought for the day: Stop giving excuses to God. There is no justification for disobedience.
Song for the day: I am ready to obey your word (2x) I am ready to obey, the living word of God
Bible reading for the day:
Judges 1-2; Luke 7:1-30
