TOPIC: KEEP YOURSELF UNDEFILED BEFORE MARRIAGE

TEXT: Psalm 119:33-40

33 Teach me, O Lord, the way of thy statutes; and I shall keep it unto the end.

34 Give me understanding, and I shall keep thy law; yea, I shall observe it with my whole heart.

35 Make me to go in the path of thy commandments; for therein do I delight.

36 Incline my heart unto thy testimonies, and not to covetousness.

37 Turn away mine eyes from beholding vanity and quicken thou me in thy way.

38 Stablish thy word unto thy servant, who is devoted to thy fear.

39 Turn away my reproach which I fear: for thy judgments are good.

40 Behold, I have longed after thy precepts: quicken me in thy righteousness.

KEY VERSE: 1 Corinthians 9:16 For though I preach the gospel, I have nothing to glory of for necessity is laid upon me; yea, woe is unto me, if I preach not the gospel!

Single sister, single brother, you need to keep yourself undefiled so as not to hinder the gospel work, which is your compelling duty in Christ (1 Corinthians 9:16). Where would you have the power to preach this gospel if you get yourself defiled? Ruth was not among those running after men, laughing, tolerating casual touching here and there.

Not Ruth! Don't parade yourself to attract a marriage partner. It diminishes your quality before God. Make yourself cheap and you will have a cheap husband. Make yourself qualitative and you will have a qualitative husband. When you come across a determined person he will play like the psalmist as we read in today’s devotional text.

That is the prayer of the righteous single sister or brother who says, “Teach me about marriage, I will stick to it and follow the processes. I don't want to fail my God. I have gotten the vision of heaven and I want to be there. I have heard of hell and I don't want to go there. Even if there is a delay in the approval process by the marriage committee, I will learn righteousness by enduring it for the delay may be for my good. He that hasteneth with his feet sinneth.

Help me to follow your commandment. It gives me joy when my obedience is fulfilled.” Let the church give good testimony about you. Love the testimony of the Lord in a man or woman, not wealth, position, fame or otherworldly considerations. Sometimes the person you want to marry may not be handsome or beautiful but that is vanity. Do you know how beautiful mammy water can be; even Satan?

Spend more time in the things of God than marriage.

Colossians 3:1-4, “If ye then be risen with Christ, seek those things which are above, where Christ sitteth on the right hand of God. Set your affection on things above, not on things on the earth. For ye are dead, and your life is hidden with Christ in God. When Christ, who is our life, shall appear, then shall ye also appear with him in glory.”

Let your mind be in heaven. Don't be overburdened or go into sorrow because of the marriage issue. Seek for heaven and pray for its righteousness. I am married to Jesus Satan leave me alone should be your song. Don't yield to Satan; then, you will get reward, guidance, peace from Jesus.

Thought for the day: Brother, Sister, keep yourself pure for Jesus your groom will soon arrive.

Song for the day: I am married to Jesus Satan leave me alone

Bible reading for the day: Deuteronomy 5-7; Mark 12:1-27

KEY VERSE: It came to pass, as He was praying in a certain place, when He ceased, one of His disciples said, Lord, teach us how to pray as John taught his disciples. Luke 11: 1. When Jesus Christ came to us in the flesh, He went into the business of prayer because He was promoting the attribute of God as a prayer-answering God. He would not render that attribute idle or redundant. Nobody knew how John did it, but Jesus reveals here that the success you saw in the ministry of John the Baptist, the victory you saw in his ministry, is because he was a prayer man. John so much valued prayer. He saw the essentials of pr...
